I just checked on the American Baptists. They are mainline and not associated with the Southern Baptists.

Yes it does. And here is a valid source (click on the religion tab to see the stats):

What you also might find interesting is that Harris County (where Houston is) is more baptist and less catholic than Dallas county (yet slight less religious):

You might also find interesting that Dallas county is only 5% more religious than the national average.

I said there are more Catholics than baptists in Dallas and yes there are. You came back with an arguement about evangelicals. Evangelicals can be in any denomination. There are evangalical methodists, baptists, catholics, lutherans, etc. Evangelical isnt a denomination in itself.

I dont know if its because you know very little about religion or if its because you are so anxious to see Dallas painted a certain way.

You might also find this an interesting read:

Its frustrating. I belong to the Disciples of Christ church. We are anything but conservative and I hate being labeled like that by a clueless idiot.

SMU, that's a laugh! I should know, I went there! You are really reaching if you think it's a hotbed of evangelicals...ever been to Greenville Avenue?

I know what you mean; I would ideally love to keep my job and co-workers (most of them, in any case! lol) and my boss, and move to another city. But that's not happening. The best I can hope for is to move my job elsewhere (Northeast), which is what I'm trying to do. Until then, I try to enjoy Dallas to the extent I can.

Good luck to you! (and me too! hehe)

Ive walked in their shoes. I moved to Chicago. After a year, I had no friends. I was miserable, so I had to quit my job and leave. Been there done that.

Dallas isnt the friendliest city Ive been to, its not the unfriendliest either. In Texas, Dallas is probably the least friendly of the big ones (with the possible exception of Austin), but its still relatively friendly.

Im more of a pull myself by the bootstraps kind of person (its the Lebanese in me).

People who live in a place they dont like have two viable options:

1) Pack up and leave
2) Try to find enough positives until you can leave

Bitching about it does nobody any good.
Actually, venting about something on an online forum is a thing that happens all the time...it's another matter that some forum members can't accept the issue of the venting in the current thread. And venting about that issue is perhaps a good thing, who knows, the OP and others with similar issues and experiences in Dallas can commiserate, find some empathetic viewpoints.

Perhaps this is just one of those venting threads, and in that sense, it is good to have it because it serves that purpose. You didn't find Dallas to be all that friendly yourself either, and certainly your experience in Chicago shows that one can be in a city for many months (or years) and find it hard to make friends depending on various circumstances. Why is it so bad if someone with that sort of genuine issue is venting on an online forum... someone else mentioned upthread that this is just the "internetz" so don't take everything seriously...so perhaps all the Dallas boosters here need to deflate their city ego just a bit and let people talk instead of either belittling them (a la aceplace) or telling them to go find someplace else.

R's. That's Dallas' dileeeeeeema. Religious, republican & repulsive. I <3 Dallas. My favorite part, living in the hood & parking my old junker car valet at the downtown Neimans. It happens.

I have another theory... if people don't like you, or let you into their cliques, it's because there's something about you that repels them. Most of us choose our friends somewhat carefully.
ouch!

I don't understand why this is such an issue. Dallas has an overwhelming number of positive features. It has great schools, a great economy, lots of companies and jobs, low cost of living, great sports franchises etc. Dallas also has a prominent Evangelical community and there is more than enough evidence to support that as I've already provided. I fail to see why Dallas residents can't simply accept that fact just like they accept all the positives about Dallas. For a liberal guy who grew up in California that conservative element didn't sit well with me. That doesn't mean Dallas is an inferior city. I wish people could be a little more candid and less defensive.
