The repair shop just called and said they found a leak in the radiator. My poor old car... At least it will be almost new when they get through with it.

I'm not always so positive, although I do try to be. However, I'm getting frustrated. I understand a car's not being ready when they say it will be, but I do not understand their not calling to let me know that. Since the owner told me, at 1:00 today, that the new radiator would be installed in 2 hours and the car would be ready to go then, I've been waiting for a call to say someone is on the way to pick me up. (The shop is one mile from my house so they always drop me off and pick me up.) No call ever came so, 5 minutes before they closed today, I called them. The car isnt ready, of course, because it took a long time to get a new radiator. They "think" it will be ready tomorrow.

I dont mind being stranded for 4 days. That cant be helped. What does bother me is that this is the 2nd day I've been left hanging about the status. Why should I have to call them to find out that the car will not be ready when they said it would? Do other car owners get verbally abusive to them and they think I might do that too? I've been using this place for 20 years and have never been anything but polite.

Finally got my car back. The a/c feels SO good! And they gave me a BIG discount so I had to pay only $1,200.00. I have a lot to be thankful for when I say my "I'm thankful" meditation tonight!

Yippee! Glad your cool car has been reunited with you.

BTW, speaking of thankful, my car's name is Irfan. It means "thankful" in Arabic.

"Irfan" is an appropriate name. My car's name is Charlie. It was my dad's name but that's not why I chose it -- I just like the name a lot.

Arghhh...I noticed a HUGE transmission oil leak on my garage floor the other day. There was not a leak in this area of the car before I took it in to the repair shop last week. So I took it in early yesterday morning and had to wait an hour for someone to drive me home. They found the source of the leak but it may not be ready even today. I dont know yet how much it will cost to repair this leak.

I've been using this shop for 20 years -- ever since it first opened. It was always very good about both prices and work quality. But then the owner sold it to one of the mechanics about three years ago and, since then, the quality of the work has gone down.

I took it in for a gasoline leak from my gas tank two years ago and they said they couldnt find the cause. The leak happened after I'd filled the tank up and I know the problem had to be one of the gaskets at the top of the tank -- but they just did a visual inspection and never took off the tank. So I googled the problem and found many other owners recommending not filling the tank all the way up as a "solution". That's what I do now -- I just fill it halfway up.

Then, of course, I've had it in there 3 times for the A/C coolant leak and they never could find the source. So I drove for 2.5 years without A/C until last week, when they found the leak in less than 30 minutes.

And now I have to wonder whether this new transmission oil leak was caused by something they did last week -- or if the repair they did to a transmission leak (which I never saw on the garage floor last week) was actually necessary. I dont think they'd have deliberately done a repair that didnt need to be done --- but I do think they might have erroneously thought it needed to be repaired.

So here I sit once again, with no car for at least 3 days -- after having had no car for 3.5 days last week.

I dont have any confidence in this repair shop insofar as making repairs goes. I know they're honest but which is worse: a dishonest repair shop or an incompetent one?
