I've been a political junkie and voter and even minored in political science in college, and I can truly say that NEVER in my life have I ever seen anyone who is so under-qualified to be even remotely considered as a presidential candidate. It borders on the absurd. She bailed out on her only real political job during her first term so she could cash in on her book in the private sector. She saw that her state was on the brink of severe financial problems so she whined like a little girl with a skinned knee about being picked on too much by the leftist media and quit.
She cannot even manage her own homelife, evidenced by failure to control a teenage daughter. She has capricously destroyed careeers of people who angered her. She has a room temperature IQ, as we saw when she claimed to be able to see Russia from her house in an effort to tout her ability to deal with Putin. And perhaps most scary of all: she claimed that our illegal and misbegotten war in Iraq was justified by a call from God. Nothing is more dangerous than someone who is both dim and arrogant and believes that God is on their side. She is all of these things.
If we want a new party in power, it'll have to be at the local level because until a third party candidate has a support structure within, there's no way he or she will get to be Prez. If people quit voting for the dems and reps at the local levels, they'll both be history in less than a decade. Even if we have one of the two parties in the oval office, if we can manage to fill the lower levels of government with independents, the big two will be forced to change their ways.
The most sucessfull third party after the Civil War were the Populists, who actually did elect people to state legislatures and I think Congress. They might have been sucessfull as a third party similar to the UK Liberals or the Canadian NDP if they didn't end up more or less joining the Democrats.
Its interesting to look at political cartoons and slates from that era. The GOP had the Elephant, the Dems their Donkey. The Populists had a strand of barbed wire (because of their agrarian base).
It will be interesting to see who the Republicans put up in 2012 ... I just hope it's not another RINO like McCain, running McCain is what really damaged the Republican Party ... it was little more then a Socialist pretending to be a Democrat (Obama) vs a Democrat pretending to be a Republican (McCain).
I too would like to see Palin run. Apparently her book Going Rogue is a pretty popular pre-order choice on Amazon.
As a Democrat I would love to see the Republicans run Palin. She has absolutely zero appeal outside of the base of the party.
I just came across this older thread, was browsing, and saw this truthful post. With all the talk surrounding Palin's new book, ppl are noticing her again and talk of the next Presidential election abound. I think she very well may make another attempt at the highest office and I definetly think Jeb Bush will too, the writting is on the proverbial wall.

Wait a minute... she never made an attempt at the highest office. She was a vice presidential candidate, not a presidential candidate.

Oh please don't try to stop them from getting her nominated and actually winning the GOP nomination. The best thing we can do is show how afraid we would be to see that happen. You betcha!
you know, I just love to see the democrats (the liberal ones that is) keep repeating, "let Palin run" we will be sure to get re-elected. Isn't it a shame when you have to depend on what you think is a weak candidate to feel you are going to get the election? It is like the name calling. It shows how desperate you are to hold onto the white house. Wouldn't it have been nice had you been able to say "we have done a great job" and deserve to win, instead of "put a bad candidate up" so people have no choice but to support us...
