Please. This is a matter of national sovereignty. How dare you even suggest that they standardize! It's kind of like how the USSR set up their railway to be narrow gauge. To protect against invasions by standard-gauge trains. You never know when having different electrical outlets might save you.

Most are 2-pronged, and the prongs are flat, not round.

Well, you have a point.

Besides that, I can use all those weird little plug adaptors for some sort of modern art piece for the center of my dining room table after the trip!

We generally have two or three pronged plugs with flat prongs, and standard wall outlets throughout the US accommodate both types.

The point is, you don't have to carry around a little baggie of various sorts of plug adaptors if you're driving cross country or from one state to the other.

Or even to Canada.

This is what's so different about US/North America vs. Europe; nearly all of the entire continent of N America (minus Mexico) is standardized re: voltage and wall sockets/plugs. That's a huge territory. But then, Canada and the US are both enormous compared to Europe. (Not counting Asian Russia). Comparing Europe with the US doesn't really make sense, in some respects.
