I should probably temper my position somewhat, Alyx. My ire stems from trends and even some of what followed your original post. There was a thread here recently expressing similar discontent over the pervasiveness of the trend of long hair on women. Clearly, there is plenty of room for personal tastes and opinions.
There are a lot of signs of the passing of familiar generations, and it certainly can be sad, but the signs are there because those generations actually are passing. Time marches on. Some things trend one way, then another. Other things change to never return to old ways (often for the better). I just think it's important to contextualize topics that often lead to posturing and disparagement. My shots were directed more generally and not at you.
Regarding my comment on experience and telling the difference, I can appreciate the humor, and I appreciate the opportunity to expand on that statement. I have seen plenty of shaved women in my adult life. I saw little girls when I was a little boy. I have also seen the random little girl running around naked to remind me of what children look like, and they look different in pretty much every way. Women's pores expand to accommodate hairs, shaved or not. Inner labia tend to protrude from the outer labia. The changing position of the hips tends to push the mons forward, and in thin women particularly the skeletal structure is visibly different in the genital region. The picture Ataraxia posted was of a particularly... tucked woman. She is very, very clearly a woman, but focusing specifically on the shaved areas, she is something of an exception. Either way, I can't think of any circumstance or proximity that would allow for me to be confused about her womanhood.
I agree with you completely on the current state of American hangups. We do the unhealthiest things to demonstrate to ourselves that we hold up to the moral and psychological standards of health set by a paranoid, prudish, and reactionary mob. I REALLY felt like I saw that happening on the first page of this thread.
I could be crazy though.
I must say, the way with which you observe the female body is poetic, sadly however I believe that you are in the minority. You pointed out differences that I wasn't even conscious of until you made mention.
Don't worry, I had assumed that you weren't directing your statements at any one person, it just felt like a good opportunity.

I don't deny that some people do it out of their own desire, however I also believe a substantial amount do it because this is what is the societal norm. I wonder at times, would I still shave certain areas of my body if it wasn't a societal norm? I learned that shaving ones legs was something that women did and so too did I join in this belief. Does it feel good? Yes. Would I have done it of my own accord? No.
To me it is an "end of a generation" because women my age were part of the last who grew up in a time period where shaving this area was not a common thing to do. I know it may seem humorous to dedicate so much thought over such a thing as bodily hair, really though, it's about more then that.

You bet! Even more so when the young ladies starting cutting their long hair into short bobs. So scandalous, yet today we wouldn't bat an eye.

Years ago one of my friends accidentally shaved it all off while she and her boyfriend were trying to groom it into a certain shape (long story). Anyway, many times for the next week or two when we were out in public she would excuse herself to the restroom and if unable to do so, would randomly hide behind counters, walls, me, etc., to scratch what she described as a constant itch while it was growing back.
And waxing? The whole pulling out the hair thing scares me. I had an Epilady when they first came out. After the first use I developed such an intense ITCH on my shins that it felt like my bones were itchy.
And when the hair grew back in I used it again.... and the itch came back. Doctor was flummoxed.
Next hair growth I used it on one leg.... that leg itched. It had to be the hair growth....
Anyone thinks I'm going to go through that on my pubic area they are CRAZY.
I wish that there weren't such negative feelings toward body hair from the hairless side of the fence. It feels like a bit of an attack when people say they stay hairless because it's cleaner, sexier, etc.
I wouldn't mind being bare but I have yet to find a method of removal that makes it worth it. I won't pay for regular waxings and the at home stuff doesn't work thoroughly, creams give me a rash, and shaving leaves me riddled with ingrowns and the irritated red bumpy look isn't exactly sexy.

I get brazilians approx every 5 weeks. The only issue is making time for my 15 minute appointments and spending money. Ultimately I'd like to have laser treatments to permanently remove the hair. I just haven't gotten around to scheduling an appointment at the local medi-spa.
But in between the Brazilians, or any type of waxing, don't you have to get fairly shaggy? I've gotten my legs waxed a few times and love how smooth they are immediately afterward, but you have to grow your hair out a bit ... beyond stubble. I'm assuming the same is true for bikini waxes.

Too many people deny themselves the joy of immersing themselves in beauty of any kind. A cursory glance and a sophomoric comment usually suffice. Among the birds of my feather, together with whom I flocked, such things are the focus of observation and conversation. The nuances of beautiful things, that is. It may be coincidence, but my appreciation for bare skin is shared by almost all of those of whom I am speaking.
Humans are amazing creatures, and women in particular spark delirium. It is sad that so many, so often, find reasons to demonize alternate perspectives.
I like to be neatly groomed and clean but that doesnt mean i want to be bare. I'm certainly not dirty or nasty because of it.
I'm "pro-choice". It's entirely up to the woman. I'm just not one of those old guys who thinks women should still look like the ones in the magazines they found in their dad's closet.
