I didn't read all the replies so this may be a repeat.

I think it's a matter of personal taste/preference and men are not held to the same standard that women usually are so they generally have more "wiggle room" in this regard.

For me, it's just as annoying for someone to be so "stuck" on a style that they can't move pass that. We took the kids (at the time all of them were toddlers) to a friend's house to celebrate Easter one year and the husband was wearing his usual dry cleaned slacks and cashmere long-sleeved button down. Fast forward about ten minutes...he spent the rest of the day complaining about the fact that the dry cleaner would not be able to remove food dye.

And some of us couldn't care less what the opposite sex thinks, because we're attached to someone of the same sex

You wear your boat shoes and I'll wear my running shoes, call it even.
I'll add that I, on the surface, may look a little "bummy" with jeans and T-shirts, but I earn high 5 figures, have 5 figures in the bank, have 6 figures in 401k's/pensions.

I can clean up when needed, but prefer to keep it casual.

Not doing any attempt at bragging, just as another member further up the thread said, "don't judge a book by it's cover."

The only time I wear "gym" shoes, is when I work out. They are not apart of my daily attire.

What are you thoughts?

Men can still dress nice and casual while being classy and relaxed.

Casual is cool.

Grab a pair of Sperry Topsiders.....and can the gym shoes.
Topsiders are just preppy "gym" shoes.

I've known people of both sexes do this when appearing in divorce court to ask for alimony/palimony.

I'm guessing a judge looks at financial statements rather than clothing.

You might be surprised. I knew of someone that beat an IRS audit by dressing like scum and acting "off".

I agree and was not successful in getting the person/s to understand this. I know one woman that went to the IRS "dressed down" for the same purpose. They have legal access to EVERYTHING. <shrugs>
