Speedo style swim suits are practical for (you guessed it) swimming. They are comfortable, dry fast, and leave a nice tan line. The knock against them as unsightly (esp. on fat hairy guys) or gay is bogus. An obese guy is not fun to look at in a speedo OR board shorts. Fit flat abs are hot in speedos AND board shorts. Speedos are popular among plenty of straight as well as gay guys. Some women like to see the outline of a guys bulge and some don't. Live and let live. Look or look away. To each his/her own.

When I played water polo we'd wear two speedos in case one got torn off. The women spectators never seemed to mind or make fun of us for wearing them.

definetely gives a better tan line, and your right a fat overweight man looks crappy no matter what he wears.

I don't know what the big deal is!

Many men wear speedos every day, I think they are just bathing suits, like any other. Women wear tiny bikinis and no one says anything, but people make such a fuss about speedos!

It is just a bathing suit!

It's become taboo for men to show thigh. Why do you suppose that is? Seems like something that came from the ghetto along with all those hideously loose clothes.

Square cut is kind of coming back in style- but tan lines, still out.

Men's shorts are getting shorter, so maybe swimsuits will follow the trend as well

Now that I think about it, maybe speedos aren't so bad after all.
Maybe they can be kind of hot.
Mmmm I'm imagining it now. Somebody hose me down! I'm getting hot!

I've been wearing smaller, tighter swimwear for a few years now, and I am ALWAYS the only one; hooray for the Midwest. I started with boxer style and have graduated to briefs. I've had teenage boys at the water park sing "who wears short shorts" and been called "speedo-man". The funniest was a little girl of about 4 saying out loud, "why is that man naked? He does NOT look good". Her fat grotesque of a mother said nothing. Had one of a group of young women point at me to her friends and whisper "speedo". Her friends just looked and nodded. All the other times people just ignore me or just hide their responses better. Considering the number of times I've worn them, that's no too bad if a record; to put it in perspective, I was in the water every single weekend last summer. You can ask about people's feelings on the matter all day long, but it really comes down to just deciding to do it and screw those that don't like it. Ironically, of course, women will say, "if you want to attract women, just be yourself" and then turn around and say, "ewww, don't wear speedos if you want to attract women". So, which is it, if I prefer to wear speedos because it's part of my personal preference? Is it really, "if you want to attract women, then just be yourself, unless it's something we don't want you to do, then yeah, you'll have to change that".
