I had no problem with the President pushing this. He never promised it would work, just said it was worth a try. But I do have to laugh at those who were spiking the football prematurely as they tried to make President Trump out to be another Louis Pasteur. As we tried to explain to them this is way early to proclaim this the answer.

Well seeing as Trump was in the thread title it was kind of unavoidable don't you think?

It is simply common sense to allow doctors to use a currently approved drugs for off label use, as they do millions of times already. Anyone having an issue with this is simply playing politics with the situation and would have a change of heart if the person saying it may help was on their side of the isle. That's just a fact.

1) Is the drug already approved for use in this country? YES

2) Are doctors allowed to use many drugs for what they call "off label use", if they deem it beneficial? YES

3) Does it make sense to let doctors have that same option with this medication in this situation? YES

4) Would the people complaining about the POTUS suggesting the doctors have this right feel the exact opposite if their guy was POTUS and suggesting the same exact thing? YES

Anyone not answering yes to all these questions is not telling the truth. E.O.C.

Brazil drug study halted because of high rates of cardiac arrhythmia in high dose group of the study.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/12/h...rus-trump.html

So much for 'so harmless that almost anyone can take it'. - it turns out a bad drug to DIY it in the same way that taking too high a dose of Tylenol can mess with the liver and the doses recommended for COVID-19 have been high indeed.

I cant get past the paywall. What was the dosage they were using in the study?

Doctors are prescribing the Trump Drugs by the millions (based off of dose quantities I've heard being replenished), and the cardiac risks are widely known. Most Doctors run an EKG before prescribing, and in the Hospital environment, each day while the meds are being taken. This is mostly an issue for people w/ arrythmia. People taking anti-depressants must also take special precautions.

The benefits of the Trump Drugs far outweight their risks at this time for most. These meds are working, and require a prescription here, so let the Doctors do their jobs.

Low group was 450 twice daily for five days; high group was 600 for ten days. The Brazilians expressed concern that the 500 milligrams twice daily for ten days as recommended by the original Chinese hospital researchers was very toxic and killing their patients- 11 dead from heart issues out of an 81 patient study group. (Doesn't specify how many were assigned to each group)

So somewhere north of a 10% fatality rate for high dose administration and possibly as high as 20% depending on whether it was an even assignment of patients to each group. So worse than the fatality rate of the disease itself.

One thing to consider is what exact group the drug was used on. Was it used across a general population where the death rate was lower or was it used in a population who were already slated to most likely die, thus the death rate would have been dramatically higher...IE people who have been intubated already or were so bad they were about to be intubated? Once someone is intubated with this disease, the mortality rate is much higher.

The French study's dosing protocol that I've seen was 200mg x3/day (10 days), and azithromycine 250mg for five days, twice the first day, then once for the next four days. So, it seems that this Brazilian failure is more about dosing than it is about efficacy.

I have to say, though, that it strikes me as funny/ironic that there are so many people who dismissed the French study as anecdotal (and, therefore, unworthy of being mentioned by the prez) but they are more than willing to take another anecdotal study that doesn't even try to replicate the French one, and quote that as evidence that the drug is unsafe or ineffective or unworthy of any future consideration.

My goddaughter is an ICU nurse at Broward Memorial here in Fort Lauderdale. They are using massive doses of vitamin C and a very strong antibiotic.
