Were they met? Were there other things that just took you by surprise that you least expected?

I thought this area would stay a small town. It's turned in to a city.

I expected a well-built new house built to withstand winds of 140 mph - got it!

I expected to be healthier with year-round warmer (hotter) weather so I can exercise outdoors. Turns out I'm not as healthy because I can't jog in this heat, yes I can wait til it's cooler, but I also developed allergies a few years after I came down here, limiting my exposure to the outdoors.

I expected Orlando to stay peaceful and quiet, it has not.

I expected the cost of living to remain low, it has not.

I expected not to miss my hometown, I have not.

My point exactly, which is why if it's going to cost the same for me to live down here, I may as well live back home!

I expected to be able to tollerate the heat/humidity myself. After all it does get hot in NJ. I was really surprised I couldn't. lol

Yes, it gets hot up north too, but not 6-9 months out of the year. It really is pleasant here for 3-4 months, but for those who like it above 80, which is that 6-9 months, then that's heaven for them. I would tolerate the 3-4 months or even 5 months of winter, if I can experience the four seasons.

BTW, the past few days, the pleasantness of being in the mid-70's here in FL, well the highs in Chicago were basically the same, it was in the mid 60's and 70's up there as well. Spring is coming...

I think anyone who is unhappy, wherever they are, should leave. No one around you wants to listen to constant complaining. Go back to where you came from! What did you think when you signed up for Florida? Breezy cool summers?
