I hate to break it to you all, but I haven't been out of the Knoxville area in five years and I hear it around here, too. And we don't have a lot of transplants.

I thought it was a national saying and it is. In actuality, it goes back to philospher John Locke, but as this column says, it is popular with sports figures because it's a nice little comment when you have nothing to say. It is also noted that the great George W. liked to drop the phrase (that's where I originally heard it), as well as actors such as Brad Pitt.

But as any sports fan would know—and as Chris Mottram wrote in the Sporting News—"it is what it is" is "about as specific to New York as the words the, of, and to."

It is what it is, a sports cliché for our times. - By Douglas McCollam - Slate Magazine

Anyway, NYer's generally don't say "yous guys" - that is really more of an Italian American thing (at least my experience witht that term) and you are so wrong about the "is what it is" term - it is definitely a North East term used heavily in the NYC Tri State area!
I don't have a NY'er issue, and if you READ WHAT I SAID..... I said even people from my state suck too, and pretty much every other state. I have many friends from NY, So.... Give it a rest. When do I "poke and prod a lot"? Please tell me. I just know a few where I live/work and they are all pains in the butts, complain all the time about everything. The rest are really cool people.
And I do not know of a story about a guy beating a guy for a plate, I am in FL.... NOW since we are on the subject of some guy beating a guy for a NY plate. My brother went to a Yankees game, and was it nice when 3 seperate people SPIT on him for being a Red Sox fan? And calling him and his friends nice names, how about one guy walked into a friend of his and pushed him aside, VERY FRIENDLY I say.....

P.S i guess we could call you Ignorant too because ignorant means: The condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed, and you are obviously uniformed about NY.
