I've thrown in Scotts here and there, but for the most part, my go-to product has been Milorganite that I can easily get at HD.
But, I've done one application of Scotts weed and feed this late spring, and will probably do a Scotts Wintergard as my last feed.
Hopefully next year I don't need the weed and feed and can do milorganite throughout. The green-up after application is just incredible.
The consensus here seems to be to either use a Weed Killer or a furtilizer as opposed to a combination product and I plan on trying that recommended procedure.
I have been buying some Milogranite whenever I an in Home Depot but have not spread any yet. Others have mentioned they use this durning summer to just green up their lawn so I never considered it for end of season fertilizing but guess it's as good as any other fertilizer.

Try to focus on liquid weed killer instead of granular.

My ultimate Lawn program is to get rid of as much grass as I can and replace it with wild flowers. I am so sick of this BS. Grass must be the pickiest plant in the world. A little sun and it just dies even though the variety I have planted claims that it is sun resistant. I refuse to water the lawn more than once a week; it is just too expensive. I put in the Scott's crabgrass control chemical in May but it started growing now anyway. I really refuse to poor more chemical on the lawn since I don't want to contribute to poisoning of ground waters. Even though most Americans don't seem to care... Also, the grass I tried to plant on bare spots in May did not really grow too well.
And finally, I am really sick of mowing every week...
Aerate, dethatch, overseed, and starter fertilizer now yield a nearly perfect lawn by Halloween.
I have been killing Black Medic clover for a month now and I have been raking up all of that that died and wilted. Since it is a product of overly compacted soil. I will aerate next week, then broadcast top soil on the lawn, over seed and then fertilize with Milogranit, then in November I will fertilize with Scotts Winterguard.
Instead of or in addition to, you can mix in some organic matter such as Leafgro.
Be sure to mist, not saturate the seed through germination.
Maybe use starter fertilizer when seeding and follow a couple of weeks later with the Milorganite.
