I'm not big on mediocre chains (can't stand Denny's), but I love Waffle House. I'm glad to see my next state of residence (NM) has at least one, we have none here in New England. Arn't Waffle Houses open 24 hours? Last time I ate at one was in Dallas, love the pecan waffles! Something about the place felt less chain like and part of the local scene. Same thing when I ate at one in Kentucky, it felt like a locals place.

Yes, they are 24/7. Quite a few do indeed serve as neighborhood hangouts.

The peach state boasts unparalleled Waffle House density. Note the ramp-up effect as evidenced via cross country trip from AZ. By the time one makes it here, they begin to look more and more like brownstones.

This might be the coolest thread I've ever seen.

AZ is Chunked, but I wish we were Scattered.

Nothing like a Waffle House, the strange thing is that I've never had an actual waffle from there...LOL.

Waffle House is nothing but a shady, dirty, greasy, unkempt pit....and I effing love it. Honestly, it's one of the biggest things I miss about Clemson. Waffle House and Huddle House (I guess you could call it the red-headed stepchild of Waffle House...even the sign is red) are nasty lookin places and you don't want to bring a date there...but they're great.

It's a big, evil chain company, but it tastes good and it doesn't pull any punches. It doesn't try to be anything it's not. It tells you: "Yea I'm dirty, but you know you like it. Now gobble down those fried eggs and hash browns, b´tch"
