For the whole state or FL I would have to say the Miami/Hialeah area is frowned upon, although, locals to that area talk highly of it.

Fresno, CA. Unless you're in Fresno, then it's Bakersfield.

NC is definitely Fayetteville. Even though there downtown and Haymount areas are nice.

I can't figure out what cities are the punching bag in neighboring SC and VA?

SC, would it be Spartanburg? Myrtle Beach? Would VA be Norfolk? I actually like norfolk but I don't know what the cities would be for these states

Agreed - by far my favorite in TN. Incredible food and culture. Grimy and somewhat dangerous, but I can hang with that. That said, I can understand why it's bagged on, as people seem to feel it's more a part of the Delta region than the rest of the state (for starters).

I don't know about Virginia but SC's punching bag seems to be Columbia.

Actually, I have a friend from Greenville who picks on Myrtle Beach. To quote her, "Myrtle isn't in SC. Myrtle is just Myrtle."

In North Carolina, it's definitely Fayetteville and Durham. People in Raleigh and Cary love to pick on Durham, probably the same case in Chapel Hill. Fayetteville has a terrible rep in general, at least around the Research Triangle metro.

I don't know about Virginia. I do have some friends from Northern Virginia who seem to pick on Richmond, though.
