As a guy who lived there and speaks the language, Quebec should be an independent country. I'm with Michael Ignatieff on this one, Quebec independence is inevitable.
I have long been a supporter of Quebec independence. The interesting question is going to be what will happen to the maritime provinces. Will they become US states, or will Canada just be a non-contiguous country?
I don't really care. Please note, that yes, Americans as a collective support FREEDOM! and BOOTSTRAPS!, but IMO we do so to a fault. Also, your proposed Swiss/Norwegian level of tranquility and peace directly conflicts with your hopes of an American-like republic.
Remember, that which divides us, well, divides us. Instead of Quebecois uniting with the rest of Canada as Canadians, you wish to balkanize yourselves as I'd presume, a Francophone state? So does that mean y'all are going to deport your Anglophones to Louisiana?
I definitely support Quebec's independence. They have every right to do so. Almost every English Canadian I have met, including my next door neighbor, hates them with a passion. They go on and on about dirty French Canadians ruining Canada, but every French Canadian I have come across is a pleasant person. It gives off the vibe that the French Canadians are beneath the English Canadians in the Canadian hierarchy. I don't know, it just rubs me the wrong way. They Quebec has everything going for it to build a new nation so I say go for it.
