You can tell a person is from the south when they start getting excited about a cold front bringing in temps in the 80s! WOOHOOO! Actually by the end of the week the highs should be in the 70s with lows in the 50s. BRANG IT OWN.
Coming from 9 months of hell down here, 4 seasons sounds great. It shouldn't be shorts weather during winter.
I agree with you. Here in Southern California, it's not uncommon for it to be 75-80 on Christmas and New Year's Days, which, to me, just seems wrong! I mean, it's great that we don't get the extreme weather that many areas of the country get -- the blizzards, the below-zero temps, the stifling heat and humidity, hurricanes, etc., -- but that very same mild weather gets a bit dull and boring after a while. And it's one of the reasons why I would like to relocate to someplace that has a bit more exciting weather -- not necessarily severely so, but just more apparent and pronounced. I love fall foliage and changing seasons and cooler weather and perhaps a bit of snow in the winter -- and most of Southern California does not have that, unless one lives in Big Bear or one of the other local mountain communities, but mountain living poses certain issues that can make living there difficult (especially for those who still need to work).
To me, though, changing seasons makes life more interesting and enjoyable and less mundane. Thus far I have yet to pinpoint the best area for me to experiment with living in a four-season climate. Somewhere on the border of Humid Subtropical/Humid Continental Climates would likely work, not too far north but not too far south, either. I recently looked up the climate statistics for Lexington, Kentucky, and the numbers look fairly moderate. It's far enough north to where the heat is minimized, and it's far enough south to where the winters aren't extreme. Plus, it's very green, which is nice.

No, not this year. Lexington has been nearly 100 degrees in the last few days. Also, it is located in an awful area along the edge of Humid Subtropical and Humid Continental climate zones. Therefore, not four well defined seasons with actual winters. Usually tons of rain, mud, and slop for 6-8 months a year.

My fiance was on the phone with his grandma who lives in west Texas, and she asked how the weather is and he said it was 50 degrees. She said "Oh, y'all havin' winter already!" and he goes "Grandma... it's fall. This is NOT winter weather up here!" and she goes "Well next week we will get down to the 80s so it's gonna be nice, finally!"

This fall has been unusually hot, but we should have sixties and seventies for most of this next week as the highs here, with lows in the 50s a few nights and even dropping down into the 40s once or twice!!!!! WOOHOO - that's more like typical October weather than what we've been slogging through up till now. Cold front comes in tomorrow night. The cool down has already started though with night time temps in the 60s. Thank goodness. I am sick of the heat at this point.
September is my least favorite month here in Texas but usually we don't have to deal with heat in October. BLECH!!!!!

I see Texas finally got fall weather. We had on and off snow flurries today. Too early for my preference, but otherwise, I don't mind it. At least we ain't getting what the Dakotas are getting!!! THAT is too much. For mid fall at least. Funny enough, the low here is 32 tonight, but it's 37 in Denton, which is only 5 degrees warmer! MEANWHILE, down south in Fayetteville, Arkansas... it's getting down to 28!!!! This is the weirdest fall I can remember.
For me yeah, but remember I grew up in California where the two seasons were early spring and late spring. I don’t get the whole magic of it, though fall colors are charming and photogenic. Otherwise...changes of season are just brief but pleasant reminders that a vastly longer and less pleasant season is coming.

And with the cold front that came in, we got a good ten degrees lower temps than were forecast. I had to turn my heat on this morning when I woke up cold!
