I don't think anyone in Houston left because of Ike. Maybe people in Galveston and Bolivar but not Houston. The only storm I can think of that would have sent people packing here would be Tropical Storm Alison. That storm cause massive flooding across the city. Ike was more of a power outage issue that was more of an annoyance than anything else.

Wealthier? City Yes....Metro NO

2000 census per capita income- city only

Atlanta City- $36,916
Philadelphia city- $30,746

2007 metropolitan per capita income

Philadelphia- $42,389 (rank 11)
Atlanta- $35,469 (rank 43)

The metro areas are almost the same both in the 5 millions we in atl dont look at our city limits as the toltal number for atlanta because the city limits are so small. IT looks and feels bigger than 486000 people with buckhead midtown and downtown and the night life in philly sucks most of the people there go to NYC to party because in philly the clubs shut down at 2:30 here in atlanta clubs close at 4 5 and 6 i know from experience and going there to philly 30 million times visiting my dads family

Miami and South Florida
Phoenix
Inland Empire
The new Austin/San Antonio region

Atlanta is growing faster than all of those areas. South Florida will not pass Atlanta, Phoenix could pass Atlanta in 3 decades and I just weep at the thought of an Austin/SA sprawled region.

Its just a matter of time before those cities passes Atlanta. Atlanta is just about to reach its peak because it does not have enough water to flush
