Too soon old, too late smart. The point of it all is that some people might actually absorb, process, and eventually pass on what the elders of today have learned over nearly a lifetime. The processing phase is of course a wheat/chaff sort of thing intended to winnow out the nonsense that will likely have accumulated right along with whatever wisdom. The whole idea is an important one though.

Um, no. I know more truly nasty older people who feel entitled to whatever similar to what they claim youngsters like myself do.

The original post is six to seven years old. I wonder if the OP is still around and if he feels different, being 6-7 years older.

You see I would say "wisdom is learned and respect can be lost" We should respect everyone.

True, and since the OP has not been active since 2011 I am thinking that he or she has either found the answer or is searching somewhere else.

Respect, based solely on age, assumes that every older person is wiser. I'm an older person. I can vouch that there are as many complete fools in my age group as wise people.

I agree completely. That's why I have been advocating for the term "consideration" for older people, rather than automatic respect.

Like you, I'm an older person.

I believe respect and consideration go hand and hand together. There is a difference between a 21 yr old and a 85 yr old.

Why do you respect Harry Jacobs?

Never heard of him or you personally. I do not judge or worry about people on the boob tube but have respect and some feelings to the stranger that offered a hand when my car broke down this morning. That face top face meeting brings out any respect.
