Killing is actually a very natural part of human behavior. Lets be honest if it wasn't illegal to kill ppl, just about everyone would have killed someone or would be dead at this point.

When talking about strictly serial killers, guns are irrelevant since most serial murders choose other, more "personal" methods usually to induce prolonged suffering.

In one sense we have much worse reporting. We treat these losers like they were movie stars.

I read in The Descent Of Woman by Elaine Morgan -- it's the best book ever on human evolution, I really recommend it -- that as Great Apes we get status from the group by attracting attention. It apparently does not matter what we do to get all eyes on us -- whatever works is good enough. Which may explain why Charles Manson gets more fan mail than the Beatles.

The worlds sterotype of serial killer is a white male as it's sterotype of a bomber is a muslim male. These are sterotypes because these people are reported to us. And therefore makes us think this is what they look like. Serial killers have been reported outside the USA. The thing is in non- Western countries or third world countries it is easier for a serial killer to go his whole life without being caught. A serial killer in Iran was caught for example (look it up on the internet you will find it). In those countries it would be easier to make someone to vanish off the earth. For example in Sweeney Todd's time it was easy for him for a while to make people to just vanish in thin air. Also these countries are more violent and therefore making these kind of people blend in better. Only certain people would get strange vibes. Like on the tv show Dexter Doakes sense something off about the serial killer Dexter. And I don't think strange vides would happen in a third world culture. Serial killers have been around even before Jack the Ripper.

1. Guns are easy to come by.
2. Theres alot of hostile people living in the USA wanting revenge.
3. The American Media glamorizes violence and getting even. Vigilantism is often shown to be a viable pursuit.
4. People are under alot of stress in the USA and often its released via destructive measures.
5. Theres alot of Sociopathic people in the USA.
6. There is alot of apathy amongst people especially where the sanctity of human life is concerned.
7. Theres alot of mentally disturbed people in the USA and sometimes they feel like lashing out and try to justify it in thier own minds .

Im glad you brought up this fallacy of coming from Apes known as macro evolution , because it is the catalyst for most of the social ills we face today in America. It conveniently nullifies absolute morals, ethics, and values including worth and dignity of human life ... bolsters racism, and gives a green light for people to seek thier own inner desires whatever they may be. Conveniently remove God the Creator from the equation, and you have people doing whatever they feel like doing without ultimate accountability -- precisely what America has turned into . Want a country without God as its foundation ? Then you get todays America.

The mentally ill are now coming back to haunt the governments epiphany of cost containment in regard to health care. Early detection of mental instability is an absolute must in a society as large as ours. Yes some slip by the scrutiny of their family or friends but most have been noted by those same people as someone not quite right, early signs are usually there but without some way to address the concerns we're left without much defense against the deranged soul looking for kicks or vengence or just some unexplainable urge.

A nations mental health policies speaks volumes about that societies wisdom when dealing with the collective concerns surrounding public safety. Of course we can now use our superior gift of hindsight and see the fallacy that is inate in governments attempts to deal with the huge problem that we all now share. I would venture a guess that most if not all serial killers are mentally deficient, the past was a tribute to the inhumane treatment of these people, we now are challenged to do something to reverse the not so well intentioned laws governing the involuntary institutionalizing of dangerous people while maintaining a high degree of civility.

We don't have the outlet of war or oppressive governments like many nations have. In many nations the nuts can get their thrills legally by joining the police.
