That's disappointing. Don't live near there but the one time I went there I actually thought they were pretty good for chain fried chicken and an incredible amount of food in their $5 boxes (actually too much food).
No surprise. sad, but not a surprise. Never saw anyone in there.. Don't really understand why.. The food really was pretty good, and the yeast rolls were to die for.

Yeah, it seemed inevitable, despite the fact that the food was better than most in its class. My wife in particular was a huge fan of the shortlived location on Pleasantburg. We went to the one on Pelham a few months ago, and it felt like the end was near.

I went 2 years ago and it felt like the end was near. I've been shocked they stayed as long as they did.
Pleasantburg, Greenwood and Pelham Rd all closed.. Wonder how Easley and Spartanburg are doing. Spartanburg just opened in October.

The bone in chicken was pretty expensive..
There is one in Easley but I've never given it a try. The menu looks like a basic fried chicken place. Seems like we already have plenty of options in that segment. They would need to really stand out a lot to differentiate and be successful.

Golden Chick is apparently successful in its local hometown market of Texas, where it has strong regional familiarity and appeal. Like Bojangle's does here. So despite a good product, lack of local marketing and support has lead to its downfall in the Upstate. And it does not have a national appeal like Popeyes which recently opened in Greer, and still remains packed in mid afternoon. And speaking of which, the former Golden Chick site on Pelham would be an ideal location for a new Popeyes to take its place.
I'm not sure how recently, but I just noticed the big Crossway Christian Store has closed on East North St. near Pleasantburg Drive.
It was a very good locally owned Christian store, and they also at one time had a location on Woodruff Rd.
