Yes, word on the street is the Wade Hampton Kmart is closing in February. This closing would be no surprise. It has been consistently underperforming, but was spared at the last minute when over 300 Kmart locations closed in 2003. Since then, Walmart in Taylors expanded into a supercenter, Target entered the area, and Winn Dixie closed.
The Mauldin Kmart remains quite busy, especially when Walmart and Target are not nearby.
We changed our target city because the Kmart in Spartanburg was closed in 2003.
I wouldn't be surprised to find out the Easley Kmart is closing, with Kohls and Walmart opening new stores so close by. They closed their Sears appliance store across the street from Kmart just a couple years ago
The K Mart Closing on Wade Hampton has been needed for so long and I predict we will see this corridor get a huge retail upgrade and revamping over the next five years.
That K Mart was preventing anything from happening in that location which has really good traffic numbers and is a under served market. I think you will see a domino effect of the Kmart and Winn Dixie center getting a couple of national big box chains and then you will see the old Bijou site get developed and lastly the Save A Lot store will be replaced along with the old steak house..Five to Six years and you will not recognize that area....just my prediction.
It appears the Wendys on The Parkway at Pelham and 85 has closed. Or at least the sign has been covered up and they were not open today.

Wendy's still has the location listed on its website. Maybe the location is closed for remodeling, or it has closed for good.
Access to this Wendy's has been bad at times.
Five Guys does not compete directly with Wendy's. That is more of McDonald's, Jack in the Box, Hardee's, and Burger King.

A&W and Long John Silver's have lacked a presence in the area for years. Selling them off to someone who can help market and expand the brand better may have been Yum Brands' last option. Yum Brands will be left with Pizza Hut/Wingstreet (dine-in), Taco Bell, and KFC.

Rite Aid/Sav-A-Lot is located up the street. I think you're referring to Ingle's Sav-Mor discount chain, which is doing well successfully.
Kmart on Wade Hampton Blvd. NOT on initial list for closing: Florida to lose 11 Sears or Kmart stores; Ohio, Michigan and Georgia will lose 6 - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/florida-to-lose-11-sears-or-kmart-stores-ohio-michigan-and-georgia-face-losing-6/2011/12/29/gIQAX687OP_story.html - broken link)
