Semiautos are certainly the fashion these days. And for good reasons. They tend to be slimmer than revolvers and usually offer higher capacity; both of which are good factors in their favor.
That said, I find that I carry my S&W 642 38 snub more often than anything else recently. Mine has a CT laser and I feel very confident with it.
I agree with this. Gun owners are a funny lot. You'll get a lot of them who agree with the bolded statement and that is a good thing. But you'll also see a lot who swear by a certain make or model and try to convince and convert everyone else as if it is a religion. I've had people tell me I'm "wrong" for some of the choices I've made in selecting the firearms I have. I'm not a rude guy, but when someone tells me I'm wrong on such a personal and subjective matter as firearms, I get pretty dismissive of them and pretty much anything else they have to say. And I'm not shy about telling them, either. It has made for some awkward moments at the gun counter.
With that said, I firmly believe the right gun for anyone is the one that a person can handle confidently and competently. If a .22lr Bersa is the only gun that fits this description then that is the gun I'd recommend for that person, over a .380, 9mm, .45, etc.
I've been thinking about this. The reason (one of them anyway) that we have so many different opinions is because, thankfully, that what we carry and how we carry have never needed to be proven right or wrong because probably 99.99% of us never have, or will, encounter real life situation where we need to draw. Of those who were shown they did not carry the right gun sadly they are not here to report their fatal encounters. Of those who did and proofed they carry the right guns, we argue how their situations are different from ours....
We are then left with many passionate gun debaters who love to argue how their way is "the" right way, as oppose to that it may be "a" right way but not the only way.
OP, take your revolver and go shoot an IDPA or USPSA match, and report back here on your results shooting against the guys with semi-auto's.
It's pretty easy to predict the results. You'll get your a** handed to you. Every time. A semi is easier to shoot, easier to reload, and carries more ammo. Those advantages are nearly insurmountable.
not always, I did watch a IDPA match about 4 years ago and watched a revolver guy reload in under a second using speed loaders, at least on the reloading part of your post.
Glock 23 (2 extra mags--13 each--always one in the chamber)...Nowadays with the amount of shootouts etc, its always better to have as much as possible. Going to upgrade to the Glock 22 next week as the 23 feels like a toy in my hands. Need something with more mag capacity and a larger grip.

And yet...one is still not wrong for carrying a 5-shot revolver. A few posters have rightly mentioned their brain being the best weapon available. Part of this involves keeping yourself out of situations where you are likely to need to use your conceal carry weapon. If we truly believe this, and recognizing the likelihood of being in a confrontation involving a firearm is exceedingly low for the average and law abiding citizen, we can rightly conclude a 5-shot double action revolver is a sufficient tool for conceal carry.
Comparing conceal carry scenarios to competitive shooting matches is a complete non-starter.
Another good thing about semi-autos is that they're all different...That might give you an edge if somehow your attacker got a hold of your gun. Depending on what safety level/features it has they might be delayed in figuring them out. Hopefully that never happens but just in case it does...
