I love sports and love football but completely agree with Schumacher.

They can play in a bloody dirt lot (like I used to) - this is high school for crying out loud.

If it is very, very clear that the revenue generated will exceed total expenses then ok - otherwise noooooooooooooo.

I don't know. My high school had bleachers. Hell my college had bleachers! 68 million dollars for football? It makes me wonder what values we teach our kids. 68 million could do so much more towards an actual education. It will generate some minor revenue. It might pay itself off in 1000 years. 68 million is a ton of money. This is just absurd!

Welcome to Texas,
where education funding is "wasteful spending that needs to be cut"
and building gigantic HS football stadiums is considered "money well spent"

That pretty much sums up Texas.

Friday Night Lights! I agree guys...simply crazy way to spend money. Is it because Katy ISD believes they don't need the money for books, teachers and such? School may be falling down.....but the stadium stands strong!

What a waste of money. When I graduated from Taylor in 2011, they were laying off teachers left and right. Now they're building a new stadium for football?

Sounds like the school district has its priorities straight.

I would guess it's similar to the recent $60 million stadium in Allen. They said that one would be able to offset operating expenses, but would never make back the initial cost.

Hmm, lots of complaints about the huge spending. I'm curious though, and I'm not siding with anything in particular here... I would like to see some real tangible numbers as to why so many folks here are speculating that this building has eaten into most of the education budget. What evidence was provided to you beyond a news article that this stadium is the majority of Katy tax dollars? I would really like to see exactly how those dollars are divided up on paper in regards to educational tax dollar spending. What departments get what, etc etc...or are most of your complaints 100% speculation and ranting? I'm just wondering.

Pique my curiousity.

I think the burden of proof is on those who want to spend the money. Nearly all of a school's revenue is from taxes. Every dollar spent on a stadium is a dollar not spent on education, whether that's a "majority" or a small fraction of the budget.

High schools don't need 60+ million dollar stadiums.
