And then people wonder why our education system is in last place among all industrialized countries.

As high school football popularity soars, so do coaches' salaries | Star-Telegram

Quote:
Texas communities thrive on football of all levels, from the Cowboys down to local high schools. With so much value placed on football success, high school head coaches are paid to produce. Information requested from area school districts shows 46 area coaches make an average of $88,420 a year.
At the same time, teachers in the North Texas region (for grades 7-12) make $51,452 a year.

Let's wait and see how the district votes on this one. If I lived within the district, if I saw that schools were under performing, I would be outraged at this stadium. From what I understand, last year's 5A state champs, Katy and Allen, both have excellent academics as well. Success breeds success. If the people are willing to pay for it, and academics and other programs/sports are successful as well, while getting their fair share of the revenue, so be it.

(I only wish I could have seen Katy and Allen play each other...but I digress).

Allen refuses to break their high school up and if you saw what they used to play in, I can see why...

Rhoades was filled for maybe Katy, Cinco, etc...the rest? hardly not worth $60 million

The problem in Katy ISD now is mysteriously how Katy High gets all the talent , Cinco is next while the other schools suck year-in and year out. Morton Ranch is right next to katy but barely causes a blip.

The mysterious movement of athletes into Katy's zone which has weakened areas next to it (see Alief, Spring Branch, Brookshire, Cypress, etc.) only worsens now as kids will want to play in that environment without regards to academics, etc.

But by looking at the price tag...it still looks less than Allen's Stadium.
cinco fan? j/k. i mentioned in an earlier post that katyland is about 70% complete. it runs on the west side of rhodes.

i think katy is successful because if their coaches and experience. 7L took a great step when they hired lydell wilson from my old alma mater.

You can always improve education which should be the backbone and heart of the country. We could really use more productive human beings in this country not athletes and im a big hs football fan but education must come first. To even suggest that much for a new HS stadium is a fail automatically.

How many teachers could you hire for multiple years with that $68 million?

This is gonna make you cry...

If the average teacher salary is in fact about $50,000 and you want all of them to work for let's 13 years.
$68million/($50,000/year * 13 years) = 104 teachers for 13 years

Or you could increase their salaries by 50% over a decade. That would get you much better teachers. Then again why spend money on education? Football is much more important. I heard a fancy stadium makes kids run faster and catch better.
