How dare my ancestors come here illegally.

Paternal ones arrived in 1620, maternal ones arrived in 1915 via Ellis Island. Where was the border patrol to stop them?

Many people are born as a result of forcible rape, polygamous unions, sex with a minor, incest, and similar unorthodox situations. Interesting, but not a recommendation that these be adopted as "normal".

And your point IS.....?

Be thankful they came of their own volition -- and not captured like animals, shackled, and stuffed like sardines on a ship like some of my ancestors.

Ask the 'indigenous' people in England when the Romans came 2,000 years ago.

Too true....the Algonquins were much too lax in patrolling their borders. In fact, they attempted to appease the illegals by giving them food when they were starving and learning the invaders language to accomadate them. Didn't work out so well, though did it?

Unless I am missing something, it sounds like both your paternal and maternal ancestors came here in compliance with the laws that were in effect at that time. Therefore, neither were illegal.
Driver's licenses were not required by law until 1910. Prior to 1910, driving your car with no license could not be considered illegal because there was no law that said you had to have one.
In 1620 there was no 'US' to have a 'border patrol'. And those who came through Ellis Island in 1915 were obeying the rules of immigration at that time.
