I have been watching with interest the various court challenges to the Arizona employer sanctions law against illegal immigration. Right now the business community is suing like crazy to try to stop the law from taking effect on January 1st. They are judge shopping looking for a someone to stop this madness.
Where I think the public is really going to see the dependence on illegal workers (the undocumented) is in the restaurant industry. I suspect that over one half of fast food workers are illegal immigrants using false documents (no I do not have a link or proof), but we will see.
Will the restaurants close down or will they find high school kids and grandparents to work?
Supply and demand; the main reason that many businesses hired illegals in the first place was due to the latter not daring to complain about abuse (illegally low wages, safety hazards, sexual harassment, etc). Much like the serfs of yore-------the one difference is that today's illegals could volunteerly (sp) leave.
Americans/green card holders have rights and; most of us will use them against unscrupulous employers.
Side note; my G/F and I stopping at a national chain restaurant in Scottsdale yesterday for lunch and most of the hired help were either obviously American are at least green card holders. In fact; the 'busboy' was a Swedish looking lady with an accent, she may have been a Nordic Latina (porcelain white skin, platinum blond long hair yet had 'Mestizo' looking facial features) but I doubt it.

Many resturants have already fired illegals and many of the illegals have quit and left. Guess what? The jobs were filled quickly - by legal residents.
It will not be the kind of problem you suggest.
BUT, let's assume it is - so what? If the owners of the fast food joints relied on illegals, then, IMO, they deserve to close
Oh btw - there is no "Judge shopping" as you try to suggest. The hearings, by all the plaintiffs, are being heard by ONE JUDGE - the SAME judge. You have been misinformed
Interesting; with the imploding economy in places like Michigan, I suspect that a lot of the shortfall in labor here in Arizona would be made up by immigration from other parts of the USA. I know of several people who are champing at the bit to leave the Snow Belt.
And too; those immigrants from Mexico, etc. with valid greed cards will be in quite high demand and will be paid what they are really worth
Side note: it is possible that many of the above legals will wind up sending more $$$ SOB which would go a long way as 'seed money' for friends/relatives who were deported to set up business in Mexico. The latter group would have several significant advantages over those folks who never left Mexico; as in understanding English, better ways of making/doing things as in farming, etc. and too having tasted more respect here in the States they will be much less likely to kowtow to the crooked authorities SOB.

Definitely a point to consider, Questioner2, however . . .
1) . . . I firmly believe there will be plenty of legal employees to fill the needed slots.
2) . . . For the overall health of the Citizens of the United States, maybe a few LESS Fast Food Joints will be a GOOD THING.
If you don't believe the restraunt, hotel, construction, agriculture, and commerce industries won't take a huge blow, you're in for a huge self-realization. Arizona is playing with fire, the unemployment rate is very low in this state, I have absolutely no idea who will fill those jobs. Are Arizonans going to leave their current job and fill those jobs? Look out for huge job recession. Many will probably stay away from doing business in Arizona.
If you don't believe the restraunt, hotel, construction, agriculture, and commerce industries won't take a huge blow, you're in for a huge self-realization. Many will probably stay away from doing business in Arizona.

You are on the wrong side of this issue and are full of misinformation - Clearly, you are uninformed
Citizens and Legal immigrants - not only from Arizona but, other parts of the county where the unemployment rate is so much higher.
Yeppers; and, needless to say, Hispanics who are here legally will be welcome as well
