Yeah but you being so adamant about retaining your Anglo-culture and then turning around and saying that all immigrants have to assimilate to your culture is pretty hypocritical too.
It isn't MY Anglo-culture. It is the basic culture of this country. We are a melting pot. Immigrants have always adapted to us while blending in (or at least until the illegal invasion came). No one is asking them to give up their cultural practices or languages at home. I fail to see what is hypocritical about that.
The US is a multi cultural country. The fact that Sling is respecting the Anglo culture, does not mean that Sling's culture is anti-American. Big difference... OH, I forgot, we Hispanics are not American.
No, it isn't really. We have a basic and dominant Anglo culture with minority cultures living among us. That does not make us multi-cultural per se as a nation. Oh, stuff your victimhood mentality. No one is saying that legal Hispanics are not Americans. Our beef is with the illegal kind and their aiders and abettors.

One question I do have: who took it upon themselves to decide what a 'Hispanic' is? As we all know; there is no Hispanic race---------it is nothing more than a political label.
An American of Mexican heritage especially if his family has been here generations usually has little or nothing in common with a Mexican national.
the japanese assimilated out of fear. also because they were put in camps. and because they were shamed into it.
its deeper than simple upward mobility.
as for your assertion that sobriety, frugality and education are not part of steroetypical hispanic culture... maybe.
but those traits ARE typical of latinos, maybe not of this fantasy idea of a fat lazy mexican sleeping under a cactus. but education is paramount to latinos. especially immigrants. time and time again you hear immigrants talking about wanting to give their kids better educational opportunities. etc etc.
every culture has its god and bad.
but trying to connect assimilation and sobriety or frugality is weak.
thats like me countering with : the irish are stereotypical drunks and they have assimilated pretty well.

One huge reason that the Japanese immigrants did so damn well despite having to deal with racism from White people 60+ years ago was that they adopted; hook, line and sinker, our Anglo culture. there is no 1 US culture in the way you would like to think. the culture of the US is a potpourri.
look at the south. it has its culture. look at the southwest. the north east. many differnet cultures. and that is not a problem.

What is it about "American Cultutre that You dislike, and what would you change? And what would you offer in its place?

its not a fact. its an ASSertion of yours. and i dont hate it.
but i do question what that means for black folk. or for other people who brought distinct cultures to the US.
furthermore, lets not forget the irrational fear of germanification that existed in the US for quite some time.
its very easy to adapt. millions and millions of hispanics have, like previous waves, adapted. but, unlike other ethnic/racial/cultural groups, the wave of latinos hasnt stopped, therefore people thin there is no assimilation occuring, when in fact there is.
but it is easier to point to those that dont fall in line, than to those who do.
bottom line. people of all stripes are assimiliating like they have in the past, and while doing so they are adding to the beauty of US multi-culture.
