It was a situation that was set up to see how other customers would react to the behavior of the store clerk.
But you need to understand that for many Americans there is the view of Islam being at war with the West and non Muslims.
Should all Muslims be held responsible for the Muslim terrorists? No.
I also know that Muslims are as capable of this type of bad behavior towards Jews when they view all Jews as somehow being responsible for Israel.
There have been attacks on Christians by Muslims when they view the Christians as somehow being part of the West and somehow responsible for something the west did they didn't like.
Turkey took Israelis off a plane when it landed in Turkey for a stopover and every Israeli was taken off the plane while all the other passengers were left on the plane and not bothered. That is much worse then refusing to serve someone.
They were held responsible because the Turkish president is mad because the leadership of Israel won't apologize for its soldiers defending themselves as the Turkish boat tried to get by a blockade set up to keep weapons from reaching hamas. They were just traveling and going about their day.

How do they treat them? Alot better than Muslims treat Americans when in their countries.....
Muslims are generally left alone and are just regular people like everyone else. A vast majority of Americans are only a little religious or are not really religious at all, and so it doesn't make a difference. The only places I could see it really being a problem are certain pockets of the South and Midwest-West. Our own media makes it out to be a much bigger problem than it really is, and if they come here to make a better life for themselves and are respectable citizens, they won't be viewed with as much xenophobia.
I do agree with one of the above posters, though, I would be inclined to believe that Muslims are treated better here than when Americans are in Muslim countries (though a lot of that is, quite frankly, our own doing.)

I think it's less of a regional thing and more of an urban vs. rural or small town thing. Which is of course not to say that there aren't plenty of decent people in the country or bigots in the cities, but overall you'll probably find it's less of a deal in larger cities, no matter what part of the country they're in.

Americans willing to act respectfully will probably get the same respect in return when traveling abroad (assuming we're not currently at war with the country in question). If you go there waving the flag, singing that song from Team America (you know the one) out loud and constantly complaining about how everything's so dirty and smelly compared to back home, yeah, you might run into some problems. This applies almost anywhere on the planet.

That's funny you mention the last part... I went to Vietnam last Thanksgiving and it was interesting- the people didn't really care that I was there. I was regarded with indifference, and maybe wonder (I am very freckly and I am a redhead, and pretty muscular.. I got mistaken for a Marine a few times) but never any blatant disrespect. Pretty much changed whenever they figured out that I wasn't just walking around to walk.
I guess my point is that when we're traveling other places, people generally only deal with us because they know we have money that is more valuable than theirs. But that's very OT.
