Carter, an Atlanta developer who is embarking on a legacy project there, is also building a shopping destination in what may be his future home of Jacksonville. St. Johns Town Center has been his most successful project in sales per square foot since the first phase opened in 2005.

Already, 53-year-old Carter is planning for a third phase of the town center to start construction next year that could include three more department stores -- maybe Nordstrom's or Neiman Marcus -- and another 150,000 square feet of specialty shops.
As in Atlanta, Carter making a mark in Jacksonville - Jacksonville Business Journal:

Not surprising or hard to believe considering how popular Juicy is.

I just noticed that today. Do they really need to remove every single native tree and plant from a lot before development?

The trees were planted to be harvested. Regardless of development at some point they were going to be cut down. I grew up in Illinois, evey where you look corn fields, no one cares about cutting those down. Same thing here, just replace corn w/ pines. These arent the grand live oaks and untouched land. I know Jax is growing really fast, but I think people need to realize how much land is being conserved. I always tell my friends who dont live here how great it is to essentially live in a forest preserve and yet be minutes from everything I need in life. I am not anti-trees, I just cant believe how many trees are around here.

None of those trees were native trees. The lot was planted.

One thing a lot of people don't understand is that if the lot did have old native trees it couldn't have been completely cut down the way it was. Before a development can begin, a tree survey must be completed. The tree types and sizes are catalogued. Any tree worth saving over a certain diameter must be left in place or replaced with another similar tree of equal or greater diameter.
