So in 1095 days of being unemployed she has averaged sending 1.1 resumes per day. When I was unemployed for 548 days (3 years ago) I averaged 8 resumes per day. Out of the over 4000 resumes I sent about 3/4 were out of state. I finally had to move back home to Wyoming to find gainful employment. After 3 years she should be looking elsewhere and really looking to go to work. State job services in every state offer free classes to retrain/stay current on skills. This is what I did and earned a degree in Business and several certs in Material Management, all free and paid by the state of NC! We have resources and must seek those resources. I also have a faith in GOD and prayed constantly and with humility and when I listened and followed he led me here. It was not an easy decision but GOD was there to catch me as I stepped over the cliff. Do not get me wrong....it was hard. I had to move Mrs. EIAFJAM across the country away from her family and away from my 2 daughters (we are empty nesters). If you have faith in GOD it can be done.
21 months and i was still considered employable. Took me a bit to learn how to "market" myself. Just finally started a new job Wednesday. Granted, its a temp posituon... but it pays more than UI benefits and food stamps!
It's still a temp position so I wouldn't include smiley faces until after 90 days or whenever you are hired
My mother is a school librarian and every year during summer she has a 3 month long employment gap (well, not technically, but she isn't working) and she doesn't do anything work related during that time. She does stuff around the house and goes on a weekend trip here and there. If she applies for another job tomorrow, no one will question her annual 3 month gaps in working.
Yet, if someone is laid off and does nothing for 3 months that person will be labelled lazy, unmotivated, and his application will be put in the circular file. Why isn't a teacher or librarian considered lazy and unmotivated? A lot of them don't do anything for months, yet they aren't judged.
Maybe because most people know that teachers are off during the summer?

Because she wasn't let go and then rehired as the school librarian. Over the 3 summer months when the school is shut down, she's still technically employed by the school -- kind of like how my company has a 1week shutdown
over the holidays.

Well done! That must be quite a relief and hopefully is a good omen for the future. Nice to hear positive news!

Yes, Solomon Scrooge - always ready with the typical negative! The irony is that if and when you ever find a job you'll be the first to jump all over someone who even thinks of responding to your news with such a comment.
I have only 1 GOD and 1 SAVIOUR. These are discussed and written about in THE BIBLE. I cannot see either but I trust they are there and have faith that they are always with me. The problem I see is we have as a society have tried to worship gods that are not true.

What can state job services do for people without skills? Like burger flippers say.
Your friend needs to find something to say like "my mother was sick and dying and I became her caregiver for that time until she passed." That is if her mom passed away or something.
I mean really, get creative, don't just say "I looked for work." 3 years is a long time! I have a one year gap in employment, and though I was never asked, if I had been, I'd have said something like "I was looking for work and at the same time I was taking care of my brother and sister while my mom was out of the country."
I agree to evaluate her interview skills. I had a friend with TERRIBLE interview skills. She kept not getting jobs so I started asking her questions and when I asked her "how do you handle conflict with coworkers" and she went into this whole thing about how she doesn't take crap from anyone. lol. My jaw dropped and I was like no, you say you communicate with them, and try to work it out, and if there are still issues you go to your supervisor for help.
She had some other minor issues but after some coaching she got a job
