Have you looked at Sun City Anthem yet? There are some very nice single story 2 bed 2 bath single family homes with garages available for rent there.

Here's just one example: an updated 2 bedroom 2 bath with a garage 1100 Sq foot single family house in Sun City Anthem in Henderson renting for $1750.

https://www.homes.com/property/2502-...jz01p5tsmt4nh/

The home includes a washer and dryer. The community is gated, so safer from crime, which I know is a concern of yours.

According to Google, this home is a 12 min drive from the South Point Equestrian Center and 20 minutes to Boulder City. Since you're storing your boat there instead of hauling it from elsewhere, that drive should be a breeze.

The rental is also 14 minutes to the Southwest Las Vegas Veterans Medical Clinic. A Vons Supermarket 4 minutes away. The Wal Mart Supercenter is 10 minutes.

If this house doesn't click for you, there are a number of other homes for rent listed in Sun City Anthem and Sun City McDonald Ranch (both in Henderson) in that general price range.

I'd encourage you to take a close look at what the Sun City communities offer as others have discussed many times in your earlier threads.

A single family house in a 55+ community will help you avoid being surrounded by young noisy neighbors.

And, no need to worry about yardwork. Most of the homes in Sun City have "desert" landscaping and small yards so no work to do outside. And, of course, you wont have to shovel snow (except for those Las Vegas area snow storms you told me about!)

Good luck with your move!

First, thanks for the info, but we figured that the area is somewhat exploding, like it will here.

This afternoon, we applied for a nice 2 bedroom/2 bath/1st floor apartment in Henderson. The square footage is somewhat bigger than where we are now. It's much closer to where our boat is, than to South Point, but that's ok. It's available on August 21, but we won't be there until September 5th. A lot of 2nd floor/balcony apartments available, but we simply can't take a 2nd floor.

Once the application is approved, will contact a few moving companies for estimates. They will have to pick up with a 5 ton truck at both our apartment and our 10 x 10 storage unit we have. Neither place will allow a full-size moving tractor/trailer in them.

As far as a 55 Plus, just can't afford that and we've looked. But, have heard that even 55 Plus places can be noisy. IOW, not everyone that is 55 and older are quiet. Those that are intellectual "book reading" folks are, but that isn't even us.

We just want to make sure we are "somewhat" settled into our new place when the National Finals Rodeo starts in December.

As stated in my OP, if the heat winds up too much for us, after a year, will sell the boat, pack up stuff and head to either Reno or Carson City.

When you call movers for estimates, be sure to get a binding estimate. Here's the story on that.

Henderson and the Las Vegas area are actually growing MUCH FASTER than where you are now. I've given you data on that previously.

Wow, the apartment you've applied for must be a deal if it's less than $1750 a month (the price of the single family house rental in Sun City Anthem)!

My bet is that a single family house where you don't share any walls with anyone nor have other tenants above you and where your neighbors are 55+ will probably always be quieter than an apartment, but sounds like you found a deal on an apartment, so that's great!

WorldKlas, in looking at homes in Henderson, I noticed that there is a "Sun City McDonald Ranch" area -- how does that differ than Sun City Anthem?

McDonald Ranch is a better location for sure as far as proximity to airport and the Strip. SCM has smaller homes and is a “golf centric” community that owns its golf course and spends alot of the HOA budget on the golf course. SCA has more diversity in homes, is in a hilly area with a resort feel to it. A little more upscale. Both very clean and quiet communities.

Thanks, WorldKlas, that's very helpful info. It's sometimes so hard to sort things out from afar. We don't golf and don't need to be closer to the strip so it sounds like SCA would be a better location for us if we end up moving to Las Vegas. We definitely would prefer a quieter area too!

Last night, on my iPhone, read about problems with young folks racing and doing donuts on the southwest side of Las Vegas. That would be in the Enterprise area, west of I-15. It's been a serious problem, with arrests made and citations given out, but it continues. Las Vegas law enforcement has been cracking down, but the racing/doing donuts continue.
