Potentially moving to Allentown area this summer also. wife, 2 kids.

Want excellent schools, family neighborhoods, upscale neighborhood. Hopefully with good shopping and dining around.

House can range from $600k up to $800k really.

Smithson

For that range I would focus on the Center Valley Area. That area will accomplish alot of things on your checklist. Also I would look into Nazareth and Parkland.
If you need specifics on the communities direct message me for community (amenities, shopping, stats) & school.

You can compare the schools at SchoolMatters - Home . If you do a search on this forum with specific town or school districts you'll get lots of peoples opinions. The Estates at Saucon Woods is a new development in Center Valley and looks like it's in your price range. Just do a google search and you will see some listings.

I would say that Nazareth is your best bet. Excellent Schools, and easy highway access to 33/78/80/22. I'm not saying that Center Valley isn't good, but I think that Nazareth is a nicer town and you can get more house for your money.

Nazareth schools are good but they are not excellent. Shopping? You probably can get more house for your money but that's because the schools aren't as good nor is the location. Nothing against Nazareth, we have family that lives up there, but it's just not as nice as the Southern Lehigh area imho.

I agree with this. When we were looking for areas to move to in the Lehigh Valley, we crossed Nazareth off pretty quickly because the school districts didn't measure up to some of the others.

I don't know where you got your info about the Nazareth Schools, but you are way off. When I came to the area 19 years ago they were a deciding factor for me. I'm not going to say they are the best, but they are without a doubt among the top districts in the area. Everyone is going to claim that their district is the best, and it's not worth going back and forth all day long.
Yes, I agree that Parkland and Southern Lehigh are right up there as well, but you will be paying taxes up the Whazoo.

Wings, where are you getting your info? Perhaps we need another website for comparison. I generally look at SchoolMatters - Home because it's sponsored by Standard and Poors and it has easily compareable info.
