Just about sums it up for me. Spent the day yesterday out in the Sonoran Desert, the rock formations, endless mountain ranges, the strange and foreboding landscape, the dead silence other than the wind whistling through the Palo Verde's. Fascinating place, may not be for everyone, however it's anything but boring. It's amazing that anything can survive in that environment, yet it's teaming with life. You can keep all your culture, cities and suburbs, the rat race, crime, who's got more than who, class envy etc. Who needs any of it? Out there it's all irrelevant as the desert lives on, unchanged for thousands of years. No one could ever get me to go back to New York.
I love the desert too, but for me, that's something I'd rather explore on vacation than live in. When I'm in Vegas, I always take trips out to the desert too.
"There’s blood on the Street.
In a wild swing of the ax that has shocked many pundits, Wall Street’s biggest banks have slashed nearly 50,000 jobs, and bonuses and expense money are being cut as profit opportunities dry up."
Exactly! I bring LI into it because it is a close suburb of NYC and if they want, LI'ers have all the access they want to NYC as if they live there. I should know. I have worked in NYC for years and I love it. Besides working there, I enjoy its amenities.
Yeah, but you are paying through the nose for that access. With the $10,000 I am saving in property taxes, I could visit NYC practically every month, stay in fancy hotel, and still come out ahead. Not that I would want to, though. Once you move beyond nyc, you realize many aspects of the place are overrated. I have been making weekend trips to DC, Toronto, Philly, Columbus, Louisville, Cleveland, and there are so many nook and crannies to explore. The novelty of many things in Nyc wears off, as things become overpriced and overexposed.
I'm not bitter at all, and because I work online I can live anyplace I like as well. I could sell this place and move to NYC if I choose to. But I choose not to.
In my business, which is online marketing, I encounter millionaires, thousandaires and people who are struggling to pay the rent. I have seen that true big shots usually behave discreetly. The biggest blowhards are those earning small potatoes. Take the hint.
Well pardon me, do you have any "Grey Poupon?" If you like living in Manhattan, great you've found your paradise. As for fine tastes that is all a matter of opinion. As for me I'd much rather get into my truck and drive out onto some remote desert highway, park it and wander off into the middle of nowhere. Take my vintage cars for a ride and not have to worry about being run off the road by impatient people in a hurry to get nowhere except to the next traffic light. It's better than being stuck on the BQE, the LIE, the Holland Tunnel, or the Cross Bronx Expressway. There's just nothing like waking up in the morning to clear blue skies, beautiful sunsets and at night actually being able to see stars and the arms of the Milky Way. No, I'd much rather be surrounded by and living amongst some of the most spectacular scenery on earth. Than to be surrounded by conceited billionaires.
You know absolutely nothing about me. I "hacked" living in New York for 55 years. The first opportunity I had I got the hell out. I've lived within my means, have no debt. I too could live anywhere my heart desires that's why I chose Arizona. I couldn't be any happier with my choice. I'll take my bland and unimportant wastelands any day. That's all that matters to me anyway.
Here's another one!
And what did he choose? One of the most notoriously crime-ridden, dangerous states in the nation. Say "hi" to Sheriff Joe Arpaio for me!
Same here, which is why I'm rather skeptical on his story.
Whoever he is, he's posting facts and stats that none of you can dispute while the unhappy expats rarely post anything but their own putdowns and whatever comes to their unhappy minds.
You still post on the NY forums because people in Arizona aren't....let's just say they aren't the brightest bulbs in the box.
You obviously miss talking to smart people. Which is why you're here posting on a forum about a place you allegedly don't care about anymore and not out there enjoying "amazing" Arizona.
He probably can barely find anyone to speak English with! He should learn Spanish and then he might be able to make some friends out there!
When I'm in Vegas, I always take trips out to the desert too.
I've never been to Vegas, no desire to go there, it's just another city same for Phoenix or Tucson. Different people like different things. I have lived in both the New York metro area where I spent most of my life, and now the great American Southwest. I'm now living in the place of my dreams and one that I love. I kind of feel the same way about New York now that I'm out of there. It might be a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. Had enough of it. Especially knowing what I know now, having lived in both places. Some may not want to hear that but I could care less it's my life. My decision to leave was my own choice and other than getting married it was the best decision in my life.
