LA has been very good to me and my young family. Don't listen to people that say it isn't family friendly.
Come visit and check the area out though, it certainly isn't for everyone, but if you come with an open mind, LA will certainly be an awesome place for you.
The great thing to remember is that you can life whatever type of lifestyle you want in LA, so if one neighborhood doesn't work for you, there will certainly be another that likely will.
