The City of Inglewood
Ok, so I want to hear what people think about the City of Champions: Inglewood. It is dear to some people in the Los Angeles area. Is it still crappy like people say it was or is it improving? What are angelinos' thoughts on this city/suburb? Personally I've heard people say it's everywhere from still kind of crappy to improving to being the next culver city because of its proximity to the beach. What do you guys think? I know there are some bad parts, some good. Discuss. I am very interested to hear what people think

Back in 2003 Inglewood got a lot of gangsters that were kicked out of the LA westside.

Inglewood, South of Centinela will be mostly Hispanic in less than 10 years (my prediction),and there is a lot of crime. However, North of Centinela (North Inglewood/Old Ladera), is still a good area to buy and rent. There are some nice properties with large lots (although some are large lots with small homes), the location is great and close to everything. Under 10 min to LAX, the Marina/beach, and the 405.

There are parts of Inglewood that are actually nice middle class neighborhoods and others that look like the rundown areas of the Bronx and where a guy will try to sell you crack as soon as you get out of your car (happened to me when I went to a concert at a theater in that neighborhood). Kinda schizophrenic.

As long as Inglewood continues to retain a sizable black and Latino middle class it will be fine. I don't think it will ever become trendy in the way Culver City has become. It would need to be more racially integrated for that to happen with a significant influx of upwardly mobile white residents. In certain respects I think the city has improved since the 80s and 90s. Crime and gang violence is not as bad as it use to be and there has been a substantial amount of commerical investment along Century Blvd with a lot of well known chain stores and restaurants that weren't there 20 years ago.
