"Ethical Treatment" of animals
y'know, I am all for the ethical treatment of animals... but I am sure MY definition of "ethical" and PETAs are on opposite sides of the spectrum.
To me treating an animal ethically includes: for livestock and poultry, giving them plenty of room to move around indoors and out, proper shelter, keeping them clean... in other words, tending them as a good herdsman or husband would.
for all food animals, a quick, clean kill when the time comes
for all food animals, using it all "but the squeal", in other words don't waste what you kill.
for companion animals: food, shelter, freedom to move around and a secure location in which to do so, basic medical care including spay/neuter and the recognition/realization that while they fill many niches in our lives, they are nevertheless not human According to my definition, then, much of our food is NOT produced in an ethical manner, but I do not think that change comes very often through confrontation and radical theatre, but more slowly by changing our own actions and by education.

While it's no secret that I am against hunting, PETA is a completely different scenario. They are just nuts!

Better yet, YOU could dress up like a deer and have one of those fake arrows sticking through your head. Then hand them your fliers!

I am in favour of hunting, more so when I can do the hunting from my front porch.
I am also in favour of producing and eating our livestock.
I am not in favour of PETA political agenda, however they do produce neat posters. [nekkid girls wearing animal collars, etc].

That is very much a matter of personal opinion. And, while I have been known to frequent nudist establishments, mine differs here.

Animal welfare and animal rights are worlds apart. I've dealt with the PETA nutcases in the past. We found asking to see their smallpox vaccination would work at times. Best thing is to just ignore them. They thrive on anykind of attention.
There is just something about people who will kill human beings to save an animal that totally ticks me off.
