I've never registered any of my cars in the City...never...and two of them maintained out of state registrations forever, and never changed them even when I bought new cars...but there again I have more than one residence....Germantown police tried to assert that I was illegal, and I went to court and simply told the judge I'm a dusl resident and simply brought the vehicle for a short visit because I go back and forth....case dismissed...the cars were legally registered to the 'owner' (an LLC)

Hello, I'm moving to Memphis in August from Florida. I have a 2008 Hyundai Sante Fe. So does this mean since the vehicle is a 2008 I won't have to get it inspected if I live in Cordova?
Was the rule before that if you lived in Memphis (including Cordova) then you needed to get your vehicle inspected
but not if you lived in Bartlett, Germantown, Lakeland, etc.?

Thanks for any replies.

I'm going to put my personal $.02 cents in. The inspection station is already completely BS to begin with. The city is giving an illusion about environmental pollution from vehicles. They can care less if your vehicle is a failure. I bet over half of city council doesn't go through inspection themselves (i.e. Barbara S. Holt). I think this additional rule of diagnostics test is a way to make it harder on the already poor people and it just a way for the city to garner more failure rates. They're thinking "damn things are going to well at those inspection stations. Too many pass rates and not enough failure rates, so we are going to implement this "diagnostics" so the city workers can have more of a reason to find out what's really wrong with your vehicle and hand out more failure rates. The poor people are already struggling to make ends meet and this is just pushing them back further and further. Get ready for some people to make more than one trip back to the inspection station (another experience that a lot of people may not be used to). I know it's a money thing for them, but it's just more BS to make it harder for taxpayers to get through the inspection station. It doesn't make sense. If I want my car tested I would rather go to a auto repair shop than have it checked by some wannabe "city mechanic" that's trained to fail more people. I'm planning on emailing city council.

To answer your question there is a link on the city site that you can put your address in to find out that if you're subject to inspection.
