that video isnt as much of a bummer as that one video on youtube where the guy is yelling at the dump truck guy who is taking away all of his belongings because the city said they had to clean up the area and they couldnt do anything to retrieve them. now that was really sad.

Hurricane Andrew - YouTube
Not that I would want or enjoy anything greater then a low cat 2. But a Cat 3 would not do that to Miami, even a Cat 4 would not cause a much damage are Andrew did then because many of those homes were not prepared or built to withstand hurricanes. Building codes have been fixed. Miami-Dade now has some of the best if not the best and strongest building codes in the country. Would a Cat-4/5 cause terrible damage yes, would I ever want a cat 4/5 to hit anywhere but especially my home in Miami of course not!

There were people wondering where there next meal was coming from and when it did they were scammed with outrageous prices for even a gallon of water. Most of South Miami-Dade looked like Hiroshima after Andrew hit and you still see the remnants of its wrath today 19 years later.
Newsflash, this isn't Haiti. The majority of those 180,000 were either helped by FEMA or by their insurance companies. Tent cities were temporary and we had to draw construction workers, electircians, carpenters, etc from all over the US just to cover the basics. No one starved to death in Andrew's aftermath either. Yes, there was price gouging, at Miami's finest hour. I don't think that is to be unexpected here though. Andrew also fueled a building boom in Broward. So yes, it was was a boon for the economy. The storm also helped strenghten our local hurricane code. It also opened people's eyes that it could have been worse and we need to be prepared for the next big one. All silver lining.

People hate the daily smorgasboard of petty minutia that Miami (humanity) throws at them but the difference is a hurricane is an act of nature. To be angry at people that embrace nature's fury is like being angry at a cloud because it rained on your parade.

perry335654: Wow! That last video you posted of Wilma was horrific!! My life would basically be ruined if my car got flipped over like that, because I depend heavily on it! I'm amazed that this guy that was filming this didn't get his car flipped over. At :51 through :59 it looks like the wind is blowing almost 200 mph!!!! I'm wondering if he was outside his vehicle for any of these shots!!!(???) I didn't know it was possible to fit a barometer inside of a watch!

Hello, I came to Miami 3 days ago as an international student I have never dealt with hurricanes in my life before, so I have no frikkin' idea what to do.

Is it life threatening? I am in apartment btw.

Should I fly to another US state until it's over. To which state should I fly? How much do plane tickets cost? I am with my mother and I'd rather give all of my school tuition then to have something happen to her.

Please answer quick!!!!!!!!!!!!!
