I refuse to acknowledge a way for super heroines needed to be paved. Pam Grier, Angie Dickinson, The Bionic Woman, Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor, Princess Leia, Xena, Buffy, Sydney Bristow, etc., etc., etc. paved the way long ago. If Feige couldn't see it, that's on him.

Those weren't CBMs. Bionic Lindsay and Xena were TV shows. Leia wasn't the lead.

Believe me, Marvel wanted DC to take the risk first.

Probably.

But the huge success of THE AVENGERS had nothing to do with DC rushing a half-baked JUSTICE LEAGUE into theaters. Nothing at all.

It did. The Warner execs admitted it, and they admitted they forced Zack to deviate from his quintology to get to Justice League (originally a two-parter as co-plotted by Zack and Geoff Johns).

Hence the entire mess dubbed Josstice League.

How excited should people be for Suicide Squad 2?

"First of all, we don’t call it Suicide Squad 2 ‘cause it’s a total reboot, so it’s The Suicide Squad and I think people should be extremely excited about it. It’s everything you would hope from a James Gunn script and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot and I know that we will deliver a lot."
A "total reboot"??? GREAT idea! This story needs a complete and total do-over after the bag of noise that was the first movie.

"Everything you would hope from a James Gunn script?" So it will basically be a live-action PG cartoon with lots of jokes.

I dunno. I'll reserve judgment till we see a trailer, but this doesn't exactly leave me filled with optimism.

It's telling that Disney reeled him back in. I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave The Suicide Squad now. One or both movies will suffer from being made on a back-to-back schedule under different studios. That, and I don't think his writing is all that, anyway. GOTGV2 was awful.

"Awful" is overstating it. It was a cinematic Happy Meal. Fun but not all that nourishing.

Which is pretty indicative of most of his work. James Gunn makes live-action cartoons for the most part. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing. It just doesn't hold my interest for very long.

The first movie's fun and has a lot of good beats, some good if spotty characterization, and a good conflict and resolution.

The second movie is a "diet cola" version of the above, in that it's packaged as a reasonable substitute, but it tastes like crap.

"Do you have a penis!"
