I don't get it. The German uniforms in Raiders of the Lost Ark suggest the film took place circa 1939-41. And, Raiders was released 42 years ago, which would suggest this new film takes place in ~1982. However, in the commercials, Indy is fighting Nazis again. How does that work, exactly? I remember Duran Duran, Rubik's cubes, Raiders of the Lost Ark cartridges for our Atari 2600's, Walkmans, home computers that used 5 1/4" floppies, everybody wanting their MTV, Taco Bells that looked like a pack of Crayolas exploded in them, Pac-Man fever, et al, but I don't remember any Nazis in 1982. What the dilly is going on in this movie...

It suggests nothing of the sort. Nowhere is it written that film timelines and "real time" align chronologically.

That would have been kind of interesting -- Dr. Jones fights his enemies with Planet Earth playing in the background. The punches could coincide with Simon LeBon's "Bop bop bop, bop bop bop bop bop."
