Why do people hate rap?
"Gangsta"Ghetto Mentality
Violent Lyrics
Materialism(Bling,Rims,Grills).
Offensive to Women(I know Rock does this but not even close to Rap)
Ripping off old Songs
Promote a Criminal Lifestyle

That's like 10% of the songs and mostly from the rappers that the people who listen to rap consider garbage, i.e 50 cent and crew.

For every song you can list that has one of those I can list one that doesn't.

Boring and repetitive. No melodies or harmonies. Give me Motown, soul, and R&B or even 80s electro dance instead!

Natalay Jones I see your Point,Im aware there are Artists like The Roots,Lupe Fiasco
Black Thought,Etc But all those groups combined couldnt match 50's Sales.
I used to be a huge rap fan but its changed too much for the worse.

It's not just rap, popular culture rarely is the best culture. McDonalds sells billions of burgers but they're not the best burgers (Tommy's, Fat Burger or In-N-Out, out west, Whataburger in Texas). Is American Idol really the best that television has to offer? Does Maraih really have the best voice? (Okay, maybe she does - But is she as talented as Alisha Keyes?) And on and on.Too many people generalize a subject or person solely on what is in widest release or has the highest sales.

50 is a gimmick. He's more popular because of the packaging then his actual music. Aside from the song he did with Justin Timberlake - I don't know one song off his new album, he can't freestyle, his beats are average - but I know all about his baby mama drama, the beef they have with Fat Joe, etc..he's an image and its sad to say but right now the image is what's selling records.

Personally speaking....it is entertainment and indeed requires talent to perform correctly. However, I don't consider it music. More of a form of poetry with a beat behind it. That is when you strip all the bling away. Consider.....Gil Scott Heron....Small Talk At 125th & Lenox.
