I hope your own business continues to grow and thrive. To own a business with 2 employees is quite an accomplishment for someone your age, especially in this economy.

On a side note, I don't really understand what seems to be a competition between "locals" and transplants, with some kind of ridiculous badge of honor being wanted by the people who have lived here the longest. This competition is not unique to Myrtle Beach. I have lived in many different places and noticed that it exists almost everywhere. I still don't understand it......it seems so narrow minded.

Yes, I am a transplant. I chose to live here and I love it here. I have made many friends here, both born and raised and transplants. None of my friends complain about living here. And not all of my friends are wealthy ~ some are and some aren't ~ they run the gamut as far as income and lifestyle, etc. The only complaints I see are from some of the people who post on this forum.
Thank you. I didn't think I was complaining so much as acknowledging the great potential Myrtle Beach has. I could have started my business in Columbia/Charleston or Charlotte or Raleigh but I truly feel you have to be the change you want to see. My imprint is small now but it won't remain that way. I just wanted to hear from other locals want they would like to see in MB other than the status quo.

I don't understand the transplant vs native thing either. As I said earlier, my family has been living in this general coastal area since the 1800s, but I couldn't care less if you were born and raised here or you just moved here yesterday. Exiting a birth canal in any given city is not a talent. It's what you do afterwards that counts.

"just look what gambling did for Atlantic City"
I am not sure if you are using AC with a positive or negative cannotation. I can tell you that AC is the pits. The only safe place is within the casino's. Walking the boards will get you mugged. The rate of violent crimes is rediculous and they have a severe homeless population. I hope Myrtle Beach NEVER becomes like AC.

Except that some of the states are not planning on building their portion of I-73 anytime soon.

A boardwalk like in Wildwood, NJ would be nice, but I have been there in the off season and then it is a ghost town.
So even though it is fantastic in the summer months, the rest of the year is quite dead.
It is a 5 mile boardwalk of restaurants and piers. Each pier having something different from the other. Their season in NJ is only three months, its hard to believe it works so well for them. They have free beaches there and parking isn't all that bad as in other locations. ( Seaside Heights,NJ)

A couple of casinos might be nice. We have such new and improved condos and hotels now along our main throughfare.
Atlantic City was actually in poor shape before the casinos came. It would have devoured itself in old age. The new sparkling casinos are quite beautiful. The surrounding area now has some upbeat stores for shopping. It really is not so bad and I have been going there since I was a small child.

Probably instead of Wing stores, Eagle stores, and the like it would improve our image to have a couple bedazzled casinos. No, I don't gamble much at all, in fact hardly at all. I can remember though how much my Mom got a kick out of it and her sister. Some others that liked to go.

I must add that yes, going out at night in AC would not be too smart. Not the boardwalk especially, but the streets.
Like any old city it has crime. But, I believe crime is all over and commonly centered in any city area.

I went to Vegas to see the lights, the razzmatazz and glamour of it all. The MGM Grand show was amazing. We could use some razzmatazz here.

I grew up (in NJ) going to the Wildwood boardwalk in summer. It was great as a kid and a teenagers but became sleazy as I became an adult. Not a boardwalk I would visit today. Now a boardwalk like Point Pleasant Beach NJ would be perfect for this area.......

Point Pleasant is awfully small and I was thinking of "grand."
Actually Wildwood was very family friendly when we would go there. Clean, enjoyable and fun. The grandness of it is what had us coming back for more.
I took the kids kicking and yelping from Seaside Park. They were so annoyed that we past the sign. However, one trip and they were hooked.
I don't find it sleazy, although I think Seaside changed and is such.
Also, going during a holiday or spring breaks brings in a different crowd.

I know MB will never have a five mile boardwalk but something at the ocean area is needed to bring more people to MB. Perhaps we have enough people here in the summer. Winters...maybe we need to be like Branson. I think the Branson idea was already tried though to no avail.

Offer everything you can find in Atlantic City and plenty of low cost condos to attract permanent "snow birds"

You want permanent "snow birds"? That will happen if global warming keeps the winter temp here at 50 or above....... We would have been permanent if we had not tried to stay here the winter of 2009 (or was it 2010) when it was freezing!

Yep, that's my vision for MB. Maybe put a bagel shop on each corner.
