Intriguing. Where was everybody when the gas plant was approved? Most of the comments would apply to any power plant. More CO2 from coal and some other pollutants but really a minor increment from gas.

It is an interesting discussion. Nuclear is clearly safer and cleaner and less polluting but with the waste problem. The new coal plants are vastly better than the old coal plants. So if you put them on line and take down the old huge improvements in air quality are made.

Thermal/wind/solar all sound nice and may work pretty well in time but still way to expensive to be competitive at present. You would likely have to double the cost of electricity to convert much of the energy to renewable.

Thanks for this info--- it does make one stop and think. Back East, we truly take these precious resources for granted. Thanks, too for a link to the Desert Valley Times. Looks like it will help me to become better informed about the area.

Here's the online link to the other newspaper in town. They too had an even more lengthy article on the meeting but I couldn't find the article on their site. It was in print but evidently not online.

I've never heard of any crime or meth problems here. You can read the police reports in the local weekly paper. They are funny, i.e. "officer received a call about a cow loose on the road".[/quote]

ok so You CAN read the local paper about the police reports But like most towns they only show wut they want 2 show. abou 3 weeks ago 5 shots were fired less than a block away 2 peaple got shot But it was never in a paper Y??? i dont know y not but i stood there & watched the whole thing & as much crap that i talk about mesquite its still a Decent town But it has issues in my book. if u like it HOT in the summer & u can afford 2 live here "some of the working class here cant" then u might like it But every1 looks at it a bit Different

Well Mesquite will have one of our local politicians visiting you for Thanksgiving, one last hurrah before he spends a few years in jail. Selling your vote for oil money is not good

My wife and I were wondering where Mesquite residents board their pets (cats & dogs) when they go on vacation. Any recommendations on some nice places? Thanks.

Heat, of course its hot in Mesquite, that's why us folks from Ohio move there, we are tired of having summers, where all it does is rain, cloudy, more rain, and then its October and the snow sets in. I cannot wait until Sept 2010 when we make our move out there! I have lived in Ohio all my life, and I have dreamed of moving to Nevada, and when I do, I plan to be outside and to enjoy the sun! And if it gets too hot, then I will find a cool casino and spent a little cash. Today is Fathers Day and its cloudy and dreary....still waiting for the big move. I would like to hear more about this Toquop coal fired power plant that is being built, where can I find more information on it?

Lots of information about Toquop can be found online, granny-nanny. Take a look at the links to the local papers in the previous posts or do a search on their sites. The Mesquite Local will have more than a dozen articles on it.

Also, Toquop's own website will give you a lot of information although some may think it a bit bias towards their own interests:

Toquop Energy Project | FAQ (http://www.toquopenergyproject.com/faq.htm - broken link)

Also, a Google search will turn up numerous links to various articles and presentations.
