Lancaster Fair
Is the Lancaster Fair this weekend? Hubby and I are thinking of going on Sunday (9/2) - we've never been before - anything that's a "must see" or "must do"? How much money is the average spent by people? In NY, the fair we used to go to was expensive to get into and by the time we left it could easily cost $100+ . It will just be the two of us and we "don't do" rides......Thanks!

I'd pick up the Caledonian Record - I'm sure there will be a big advertisement for it in there.
I've never been, so can't help otherwise - we always went to the Caledonia County Fair (just got over I believe) so we were "faired" out by the time Lancaster comes along!
Have a great time!

Thanks vter - Never thought about looking in the Caledonia Record - I did go to the site for the fair so I have a general idea of what's there, etc. I understand being "faired out", believe me!

Starts Wens, Good luck Traffic is horrible here in town. Durring the Fair anyway. Sunday is the Demolition Derby. I walk to the fair grounds as they are 5 min walk from my house. I live on Page hill. If you want IM me and I can give you dirrections around some traffic.

Thanks! Will PM...oops, they changed it to DM - you for directions. We're used to heavy traffic at fair time, but I'm sure hubby will greatly appreciate ways around it! We lived on Route 9 in NY, the county fair was maybe half a mile from our driveway - Many, many times, we would sit at the end of the driveway for a good 15-20 minutes just to get out and head in the opposite direction.....NOT fun

I grew up in Groveton and used to LOVE that fair... the Joe Chitwood Thrill Show was the highlight of my summers.

Is the Lancaster fair an annual fair? It sounds really nice.

I *think* it's an annual event, from what I've read and heard. We didn't go last year, but we're looking forward to checking it out this year!

Yes...it's ever year. The North Haverhill Fair (Woodsville area) is a good one as well as is the Caledonia County Fair in nearby Lyndonville (VT).

We've been going to the lancaster fair for a few years on our way up to Pittsburg to go camping. It's one of my favorite fairs-has a feel similar to what the old sandwich fair used to be (we used to get that monday off from school just for the fair-its not the same now with it being a 3 day columbus day weekend fair)
Lancaster is spread out nice-doesn't get too congested except where the rides/midway is later in the day. We like the little petting zoo of animals and being able to go to diff. parts of the grounds to watch the horse trials, tractor/horse pulls and there is a wonderful company that makes fleece hats and gloves that I have to hit every year for our sons supply. (their gloves are double fleece so they stay warm and dry-better than llbean's, co. out of Jefferson nh I believe.)
Lots of car/truck dealerships with their wares to check out along with campers, sno mobiles and BIG trucks for logging/earthwork. Its just a nice variety not cheesey
