I won't be inviting no other peeps on then myself into my apartment if I get it
Other then friends/family coming over for the weekend
Also they don't just give apartment to just anyone , the point of the lottery is to give it to ppl without crimal history , bad credit etc etc THAT why it a lottery system and THAT why they check
I've lived in east new york for a few years . Never experienced any problems. I currently live in Harlem and I'm thinking of moving back to Brooklyn to be closer to family. I actually applied to this lottery as well others in different parts of Brooklyn. Some have looked better than others. But I think it does help to explore the neighborhood and also ask others.
I love how everyone doesn't believe that these things happen since the applicant goes through a check process to verify specific information. Just because a process is done during a lottery, doesn't mean it's ongoing. That tenant can pretty much do whatever they want once they're awarded the unit. NYC housing doesn't have the funds or the employee bandwidth to supervise an awarded lottery winner to ensure he/she is doing the right thing. That's like saying Whitney Houston stopped using cocaine.
All they ask is that the tenant pays on time. As for Livonia Commons, I'm sure there are annual checks and visits in place since the apartments are priced so low, but that just means the tenant can get everything cleaned up for the visit and then go back to bad habits.

It really seems like a nice area around Livonia commons but then again you have to live there to know how it really is. I want to explore the area but I don't want to be in danger coming home from work late or something

I think she over reacting maybe she not use to living in areas like that
But for a guy like me that live his whole life in Harlem and never had a problem
And for ppl like u that lived in the Bronx , it seem like it a very isolated area and safe
Brooklyn is changing , it so similar to Manhattan now it not even funny

I do believe that they happen and ppl cheat the system but I know it this apartment won't be like anything from the projects
They select ppl with good credit score and no crimal record and stable jobs they just don't give this apartment to ppl from drug addicted programs or homeless shelters . THAT the whole point of the lottery and the point of selecting ppl that meet the criteria
If this is the "best" option you have then why not. You can take the bus to the Gateway Shopping center (which is currently expanding) and you're literally on the same block as the 3 train. Don't listen to the naysayers who don't live out here who say the 3's slow, it's a couple of stops to Utica & then the 4 awaits.
But if you have a better options in a safer area I'd choose that.

It's someone who does not live here - people already commented about that person posting false and misleading information.
The neighborhoods thing ... in these neighborhoods, people do things to each other but don't target others so much. A lot of the problems are quality-of-life outside, because people who sell drugs and shoot at each other also litter, play loud music, do other anti-social things. Many areas are getting cleaned up and in a couple of years time things could be very different. And when they are, you will still be there in an apartment you can afford. The comments about the screening processes and the good transportation options make good points.
