"El" means elevated track. It can be any train that's above ground but in this case it would be the 3 train. And yea living next to one of those tracks can be a nightmare. When I lived in Woodhaven, I lived right by the J train and eventually you do get used to it but it does take time.

It looks like the El is right outside the third floor window of those apartments facing the WRONG way.

Hey you never know they might be sound proof. Let's be optimistic... but still ask for one away from the train lol.

There's also a building by a fire department.

Buildings close to train stations are usually sound proof, I currently live next to one. But that all depends which building you get chosen for. When you really think about it its not a bad deal. I've looked at how much gateway in Brooklyn was transformed. neighborhoods are changing. Hoping for the chance to interview for this one.
