You can't put your name back on the list.

You get the log number and you pay the fee. Otherwise, your name drops off the list and that's that.

But it is a REAL dick move to throw your hat in the ring when it's a) a lottery, b) a place you don't even want to move to, and c) only open to a limited number of slots.

Nope.

As the letter states, return the application and fee by the due date or your off the list.

From there they tally up the list according to log numbers starting with preferences (veterans, current residents).

I'd have to agree - applying to apts with no intention of moving in is not cool. Unfortunately, it happens quite often.

Did you apply to St. James?

I got a letter in the mailbox on Monday from St. James Towers saying I was selected for one bedroom. How long the process can be? Does anybody know specifically for St. James?

Yes, which is why I find people who apply and do not want it to be so rude. I have not gotten a letter yet.

How silly. If a person applies who does not want the place he says no and the next person in line gets a shot.
Why a problem?

Because it's a LOTTERY with a CLOSED NUMBER of people who will be chosen.

If someone who clearly does not want the apartment applies and gets a log number, they are taking a number from someone who did apply and who wants it and who didn't get a number.

How is that hard to understand?

Its a lottery for a LIMITED, WAITING LIST.

They only select a specific number of names to apply for each apartment size and go on the waiting list. It's not like the regular affordable housing where they just keep on chucking down the line if someone is not interested or refuses.

People are literally cut off from APPLYING. Just. To. Apply. Kinda crazy.

So I get it. Not cool.

In the beginning, I was applying for EVERYTHING! Then, I realized that it just made no sense because:

a. I know I would not live in the area/borough

b. I'm not willing or can't afford the rent

c. Didn't qualify and likely wouldn't if I wanted when they call

d. I was likely interfering with others who were genuine with their applications for these opportunities

Now I just apply to what genuinely make sense for my situation.

I don't know the situation here but if it was unintentional, hopefully, it is a lesson learned.
