Don't let the good taste fool you; plenty of those "Eastern European" immigrants and Orthodox Jews have money; they are just crafty as eff in hiding it so can get various welfare or other government benefits.
Case in point Orthodox Jews being economically displaced out of certain areas of Brooklyn are flooding onto SI and parts of NJ buying homes. Many times often harrassing local property owners by showing up on doorsteps with bags of cash asking to buy someone's house.
You don't do that if you're truly busted.
Oh I'm aware they're not all working class. The Eastern Europeans are socially mobile anyway.

After all, if he cleans himself up, goes to rehab, he has the earning power of someone with a PhD.
Class is generally determined by taking into account not only current income but also education level, level of savings/assets, etc.
For example, a plumber who earns 100K might still be considered working class.
As might a nurse/RN who earns 55K.
While a social worker or teacher who earn 45K may be considered middle class. (Most people do not consider teachers working class) Why? Because it takes more education in many cases to be a social worker or a teacher than to be an RN, but RN's may still earn more.
Policemen who earn 70K? Working class.
See?
So to my summary of this , they are all pointless terminologies .
Not isolated, just dwindling. Another point that I don't think anyone brought up is that the "working class white" groups have all been socially mobile, so generally their kids end up making too much money to be considered working class.
Even the blue collar but solidly middle class Italian-Americans I know have kids who went to/will go to college and will likely work white collar jobs.
