RIP Frankie. Go to Astorians.com. There is a thread about the accident. They are saying that the tractor trailer shouldn't have been driving on 35th St.

its not just DSNY its the whole city there not hiring... as far as that article went it looks like they were laying off about 10% of each dept....so for us that is about 600 guys...did anyone read our contract and read the part about outsourcing work and hiring privates if its cost efficient...

That's been there a while... The city would be crazy to go private......for reasons too long to list here. In a nut shell... it would not be cost efficient.

... and of course... they can strike...

this talk about "cutting the fat", firing the problem workers before any layoffs i think is all hot air. there are many higher ups that have friends and relatives that take huge advantage of their hook. commish's son is a good example. i can think of 2 in my garage that should have been gone some time ago. both have connections. if anybody out there with a marginal record gets canned, you cant go wrong with getting a lawyer and bringing up the issue of -why does this person still have a job. assuming their overall record is worse!!!! ironic how some people in charge look to hang the good worker for the smallest thing wrong but their buddy gets away with the garbage equivalent of murder. whatever that would be.
