In most settings someone is there for a reason. They are immersed in their own world.

We have nature trials, parks etc around here and some walk with their cell phone cranking something music, talk or a phone call. Others walk for fitness and/or health(told by doctor). Many have different schedules. On early morning walks some won't give the time of day probably because they're going to work after. Even later in the day because night shifters doing same thing.

Also today in particular many don't trust, wonder what scam someone is running or just by appearances or known behavior they want nothing to do with you.

I'd go about your routine not worry about another's attitude or demeanor.

I know 75% of my neighbors and during Hurricane Ian we all took turns helping each other out. One brought me coffee every morning and let me charge my cell phone because they have a generator and I don't. Another one brought me dinner a few nights and we see each other almost every night when we walk our dogs. I picked up essentials for them when I made my way to the grocery store. I truly realize how fortunate I am to live in this neighborhood. Been here 5 years last month.

However, there are some people that if I see them out walking I will wait for them to go by unless I have plenty of time to shoot the breeze because she goes on and on without letting anybody else get a word in.

Disasters or 'pressure' is another indicator of true colors. I've experienced similar after disasters including a hurricane. But there were also years of uneventful lives where everyone went about their business.

That's too bad about your neighborhood. In my experience, Phoenix and its surroundings are generally like that, like California. I like living in a small town where every month they have some kind of down home festival or other. It's small, it's kind of hokey, but people are so relaxed and friendly, with most people knowing most other people. Will never see that in a big suburb or city. They ain't Brooklyn with the (historical) stoops.

Oh yes! We are targeting a small town that’s now part of the greater columbus Ohio area. Some suburbs I’ve lived in were friendly and community oriented because they had an active community pool and rec center, street parties, etc. i adored living in London and Newcastle and was involved with community within those cities, lived just outside Annapolis MD and was very involved in that community, Clinton New Jersey was also great, Plano Tx meh!

Gilbert is one of my fave places to hang out ,although I’m sad to see Bergies is closing after 14 years. It was one of the coolest coffee shops to hang out and read, watch all the parrots and finches.

Nooooooo! They have to stay open until I can get back there. I always took ValVista to get to Cosmo Dog Park. Never knew about Bergie's.

Better get back before Dec 1st. They’ve sold the building and Dec 1st is when the new owner takes ownership. The bergies owners will continue to sell their coffee at the farmers market. Will be interesting to see what will happen because I believe the building is registered as a historic structure.

Do you know who the new owners are? It looks like such a cool place. It's so far from where I lived that I never found out about it. I can imagine that it's a place where a lot of people from Gilbert like to congregate.

I don’t know and nobody has really offered any info on what will go in there.

I hope they don't ruin the ambience. A favorite restaurant of mine in Long Beach tore out all the plants in the patio area and to me, destroyed the ambience. Bergie's has an even better ambience than the restaurant in Long Beach. Hope the keep it. I hate when businesses come in and streamline everything, slick it up and make everything "white."
