If only half of the stories I have heard are true, and the other half are outright lies, then it is still a dangerous dump!

Just a personal opinion, but I would stay away from Monroe County completely.
I agree 100%

Lake Harmony/Big Boulder area is haven and earth, night and day from PCP.

Think of Jersey Shore vs East NY

It looks like you get much more and nicer house for the money in the Tobyhanna area, I thought there had to be a reason for it. I did see all of the past posts and was curious if the general feeling has improved, looks like the word is still the same...stay away.

Thanks for all of the responses even though this has been brought up before.

LOL.... you would be lucky if you get $0.12 per week...
Sure you can rent it out... but to get rent from those people will be hard... to get rid of them without burning down your house is harder.

Sadly, I think that poconogirl is correct.

You are all sadly mistaken by bad press of the past. A Pocono Country Place is larger than Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg combined and they have the lowest crime rate per capita in Monroe County. They have 13,000 residents and have had 1 murder in 36 years of their history ( and that was a domestic murder) how many communities of this size can state that. They have their own Public Safety which helps curtail any criminal activities. You should not be afraid to live in APCP or rent a home there.

Oddly, statements displayed left and right of how horrid Tobyhanna has become fueled my research. Before researching the area I expected readings of murders, extreme crime,mob-like interractions, etc etc...After reading on the area it appears similar to ANY Town\City with drawbacks. It appears most of the population\C.D. subscribers just hop on a bandwagon and ride it until the wheels fall off. I would hate to group everyone in this area as one yet, it appears the simple minded run wild. Quite frankly the outsiders\transplants may become the best thing for that area. Extremely Narrow minds are as useful as extremely narrow vessels for an oxygen starved heart. Just not enough to sustain a healthy life!

OM gosh! Murders are not the only thing to fear, property crime, drug activity, hostile teenagers, children of all ages left unattended! I spent a weeekend there with my family and it was the worst weekend of my life. The house we rented was nice if we had only stayed in it for the entire weekend!!!! Going to the beach as a family what a nightmare. BTW, for anyone thinking along racial lines, we were tormented by white teenagers/young adults! Scum is scum, no matter what color, class or economic level!

First, I am a transplant, secondly there is one major difference in a town you are not locked in with undesireables.

Again, each problem or issue noted occurs throughout America. Totally appreciate unblurring the problematic teens racial background. Also, vandalism is a serious problem and a nuisance. Color shouldn't be a issue, adolscents are adolscents. Bloominscranton you are never locked in unless you're incarcerated or deployed. Ask eachother what have you done to correct the issue.
